What does sex mean for them? Socially, religiously, what attitudes are they bringing with them? Is “virginity” something they care about? Do they want sexual experiences to occur within a certain “level” of relationship, or does that not really matter so much to them?

What do they think about romantic love? Do they have baggage surrounding it? Do they idealize it? Is it an object of longing and wanting, or were they really not thinking about it until they started falling for the other character? What are their expectations like?

How much independence do they prefer in a relationship—do they want to share their lives as much as possible with their partner, or do they prefer to mostly do their own thing and let their partner do their own thing?

um ive been thinking about them a lot lately so i hope you dont mind me answering these for esteem and kanerah except the last one because i already answered it for them

22) for esteem sex is for fun, and can also be a way to get to know a person. its still a bit particular about who it sleeps with, but it doesnt need sex to happen at a certain "level" of relationship.

sex is also fun for kanerah, but its also a way to ingratiate herself with someone.

8) esteem is a bit of a romance idealist at heart - influence from knowing that her father gave up everything to be with her mother, as well as maybe one too many romance novels growing up. she didnt really see it in her own future, though, until she fell for kanerah.

kanerah otoh, is very skeptical of romantic love, and certainly doesn't know what to do about someone loving her for who she is, without any pretenses. it took a while for her to realise that she did feel the same way for esteem.

12) it took me a second to try and think of a really codependent relationship that id come up with to contrast all the independent ones and then i remembered that sonje goes through a whole character development arc where she becomes more independent instead of being hopelessly codependent on sandrine, who didnt have the same problem. and then she has a weird thing with yotsuyu thumbs up emoji
