What fic do you think best sums up your style as a writer?

holy shit this is a tough one. UH.

i feel like this question should be divided based on what i consider my style as? but then i'm looking through all my fics and the same one keeps standing out to me when i think about my style of writing. my style always, always, includes some sort of comedic element - whether it be sarcasm, or something genuinely funny. or, at least, i try to be funny. i find myself laughing when i read back. i don't know whether anyone else finds it funny. but i ALSO have a tendency to write more than i really need to write - i could get a prompt that only requires 3k words max and i could make it a multi-chapter fic.

which brings me to holiday mishaps. i wrote it last year (2021), but i think the only thing that's changed about my writing since then is the fact that i'm not writing action as much - i'm writing more fluff, more romance. i'm going a lot softer than i used to. still with the hints of comedy, or attempted hints, but that fic encapsulates a lot: the slight comedy, the attempt at drama and a lil bit of angst, nice chonky paragraphs of description and setting the scene. i would say that that fic is the first of my official new era of writing - oneshots and fun shorter projects that don't require a whole lot of planning, where i'm free to write as much or as little as i want and am not pushing myself or limiting myself to a word quota.

anyway, that fic had light comedic elements mixed in with drama and action and an exhausted sarcastic teenager (i love alex rider) and was an easy prompt that i turned into a 5-chapter, 30k fic when i'd originally told myself that 10k would ABSOLUTELY be my limit.

i have no self-control.

“I have to see him, Bruce,” Dick whispered brokenly. “I don’t know how much longer I can stay away.”

“I know, son. I know.” Dick’s heart clenched and he squeezed his eyes shut against the tears now burning his eyes. “He…he misses you, too.
