I'm British from London precisely, never have used the word dickheads for friends who are girls only males. Also in my entire life, being surrounded by British people, I have never heard anyone call their friends who are girls that. So actually no it's not a British thing.

don't think we're gonna find the answer to this but can probably agree on the fact that dickhead is most widely used as an insult for males. :)
