there is a stillness too calm to understand. it comes in the forms of waves: balanced, erratic, and in a way, repetitive. the fact you are standing in front of a grave of an old paramour seems to be eating at you. the name etched and burned into memory since the day you met in daycare.

funny how you'd always play together groups of two or three, but as time went on, you began to fade out the picture-perfect life of a once best friend. you said forever, but forever was just until final recess bell--forever had meant late night calls to gossip--forever was without you by his side when she inevitably crossed the street and was stricken down by a runaway truck. beheaded and defenseless the person who robbed you of your first childhood friend finds her name being said in memorials all over the neighborhood.

years go by and grief does things to morph and warp the mind. you tried to remain calm best you can whereas your once in a never-while friend throws himself into a depressive, reclusive state. sure high school examinations and even classes were a breeze, so why now does he show up at your doorstep at 4 in the morning breathless and bloodied like he just returned home from a war.

"do i know you?"

four words cut into the young man's psyche and as he silently nods, he answers.

"you did once. in the sand box. it was me, rika, and...you," he says.

a moment of brief silence goes by and in the furthest memory of your childhood bank, your face twists in both surprise and recognition.

"hello okkotsu-san," you faintly smile. "what brings you here this late...oh my god! how did you get this hurt?"

you pull him inside after noticing the blood dripping from the back of his shirt. you have him lean on your side as you escort him to the couch.

"you're so lucky i have a degree in medical science application," you say. "and that ms shoko taught me how to harness cursed energies to create a thread like aachnae."

you hand him a bottle of whiskey as you stand up from the couch to grab the first aid kit. you explain as you go along what you're planning to do.

"you know with my skill, i cannot fight like you and the other sorcerers do. my part in the fight is the aftermath: patching reckless sorcerers. here," you uncap the whiskey. the vodka travel bottle is on your right.

"this is for me," you take a swig. "okkotsu, this is going to hurt, so I'm gonna need you to take a swig."

you bring the bottle to his lips and he makes a sour face as the bitter liquid touches his tongue. he coughs and as he does so, you spin your finger in the air--a thread, silvery and sky blue, starts to roll into a large spool of cursed thread.

"excuse me," you whisper as you peel his shirt up. you scowl. "the wound is deep. the hell did you fight? a curse with a broadsword for hands?"

he stops squirming once you start to cleaning the wound and he grumbles. the moment you start stitching him up that's when he yells in unbearable pain. the curse he was sliced with had another sort of enchantment on the blade.

"i need you to stay still, okkotsu," you plead. "the more you move, the more the stitches won't exorcise the cursed essence..."

you touch his forehead and whisper, "you're a lot stronger than this."

okkotsu's large puppy-like eyes restrict and contract as he recognizes your stern words. he grunts and grumbles curses under his breath as he notices the burning feeling of the cauterizing thread.

"there, all done," you said as you stand to go wash your hands after peeling your gloves off. okkotsu's breathing is labored, but he breathes normally almost an hour later.

this healing factor took place months ago by now. you're still in front of the grave of both master and student. you lay your flowers down and pray for the repose of the okkotsu & gojo family souls at this mausoleum.

character speculation

Ever since Cassandra Clare announced that there would be a new Italian shadowhunter in Chain of Iron, I’ve been thinking about this girl’s character description, physical appearance, and how she’ll fit in with the rest of the TLH crew.

I know that Cassie probably already has those details planned out, so it’s not likely that she’ll use what I think about the new girl, but that’s okay. I still had fun doing this.

Antonella "Nellie" Malatesta is a willowy 18-year-old with a heart-shaped face and russet-coloured skin. Nellie has shaggy, windswept flaxen hair and smoky grey eyes that match the exact shade of charcoal.

Nellie has been described as cute and adorable by the people around her, though she tries to downplay those qualities by acting tougher than she is.

Her palms and fingers are callused due to constant practise with her ring daggers, which she prefers and always keeps on her person. She has also demonstrated a proficiency with knuckledusters as well.

Nellie is sympathetic towards Downworlders, ever since one of them saved her life from a vengeful vampire when she was a child. She was also close to the wolf pack back in Rome, much to her family’s chagrin.

Nellie’s interest in fashionable clothes leads to a chance encounter with Anna and Matthew. Nellie also eventually becomes friends with Lucie, Cordelia, and the rest of the Merry Thieves.

Ariadne, however, is more wary of Nellie, correctly suspecting that Nellie has romantic intentions towards Anna.

A/N: This piece is based off a Headcanon @thecuriousinferno posted awhile back! I was really inspired by the post and you can read it here. “Pass the popcorn, thot” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read and so it made it’s way into this fic, so thank thecuriousinferno for that wonderful line! I highly recommend their writing and blog in general and thank them for this inspiration! It’s also worth mentioning that this fic is part of a series of fics under the subtitle Four Seasons of You which is 4 fics featuring 4 different You pairings in 4 different seasons. You can read the first part of this series here but it’s absolutely not necessary for your understanding of this fic. Let me know which fic in this series you’d like to see next, Spring or Fall. It’s hot today, just as it had been every day for the past month. Usually Riko wouldn't really notice, but today she was particularly annoyed, and although in her thoughts she chose to take it out on the weather she knew what was actually pissing her off. In fact, the source of all her frustration is standing right next to her, the girl named You. Riko glances over to her.

She’s leaning with her back against the wall staring intently at her phone. She’s got on a green baseball cap, a basic black tank top, and loose fitted basketball shorts.

You can feel Riko staring a hole in the side of her head, so she turns her gaze away from her phone to stare back.

Riko is wearing a pink floral patterned sundress; You thinks Riko looks over dressed for a movie, but shrugs it off for now.

“W-what is it?” Riko asks in a meek voice.

You raises an eyebrow at the question “You were the one staring at me” she shoots back.

“I was just- well you were looking at your phone, I thought maybe Chika had messaged you” Riko spews out the best excuse she could come up with.

“Nah, she hasn't said anything.” You replies, turning her gaze back away from Riko and fixing her cap. “Not that I expect her to. This is normal for her” she adds.

It was true, being 15 minutes late wasn't out of the ordinary for Chika, nor was it the reason Riko was furious with her; she was angry because today was supposed to be her date with Chika, but instead she had invited You along. Riko would be pissed had Chika invited anyone, but of course it had to be You. Riko never gets along with You, not that she's ever put her best effort forth either.

The silence between You and Riko is again broken by the sound of each of their phones buzzing. They share a glance then look to their phones, it's a message from Chika that she sent to both of them.

“I'm really really sorry but I can't make it to the movie today, I forgot I had to do something for my mom today. I promise we’ll all go see a movie another time! But you two have fun without me! I’ll see you tomorrow at school, tell me how the movie was!”

You finishes reading first and places her phone in her hoodie pocket with a sigh, looking over to Riko. She notices Riko’s eye start to twitch with anger, and You completely understands why.

Riko places her phone back into her bag and turns towards You with the fakest of smiles. “I guess we’ll just go home then? We can see the movie with Chika next weekend! No big deal!” Riko says holding back her anger.

Riko starts to walk towards the bus stop when You grabs her shoulder “Oh no you don't, we have to see this movie today” You demands.

Riko turns on her heel and shrugs You’s hand off of her shoulder. “And why, exactly, is that?” Riko asks barely containing her rage behind another fake smile.

You lets out another sigh and pinches the bridge of her nose, “you don't seem to understand. Tomorrow at school Chika is going to ask us about the movie, and what are you going to say if you have yet to see it?” You explains.

Riko flicks her hair behind her shoulder, “I’ll tell her exactly what I told you, I want to see the movie with her.” Riko retorts putting her hand on her hip. Riko imagines telling Chika ‘it's not the same without you there Chika’ and all the other gay ways her conversation with Chika could go tomorrow.

“this dumb bitch” You whispers under her breath, “no, Chika will feel bad if you tell her you skipped the movie because of her.” You explains her annoyance showing in her tone.

Riko’s gay fantasy shatters with this revelation. Her hand covers her mouth instinctively, she's shocked, You was right. “S-so what do you suggest we do?” Riko asks, puzzled.

You squints at Riko, “Umm, we watch the goddamn movie???” she says with exasperation.

Riko’s eyes widen “Are you suggesting you and I watch a movie together, alone?” she asks.

As much as You hates to admit it, this time Riko was right, that sounded dreadful. If Chika was here she would just sit between them. That's when it hit her, what if they replaced Chika with a stranger between them, or even better, an entire theater of strangers. “We’ll just sit in different parts of the theater” she explained.

Riko’s eyes lit up, “that's it! Then I won't have to deal with you at all, it's like you don't even exist!”

“Yeah, right back at ya” You says walking towards the cinema entrance “I'm looking forward to watching this movie in peace.”

Riko follows her, “as am I, you have a great time as far away from me as possible.”

Inside, You buys her ticket first then Riko steps up to the counter, “one ticket for a girl and her dog, a water, and a small popcorn please” Riko says to the women behind the counter.

“Oh, lucky for you, that’s  the last ticket for this showing of that movie, here you are” the attendant says handing Riko her ticket, then she turns around to get Riko’s order. “Enjoy the show” she adds when she hands Riko her popcorn and drink.

“Thank you” Riko says with a smile and turns to head towards the various cinema rooms, she notes that You must have already went inside.

Riko enters the door labeled ‘showing room 6.’ Inside a young cinema employee stands accepting ticket stubs, Riko hands him her ticket “Looks like you're the last one, I think the last open seat is near the top” he directs her.

“Thank you” Riko says starting up the steps.

At the top she is greeted with a very common issue in theaters and other crowded places for a small girl like herself, a tall man sits right in front of the last available seat. Luckily for a common issue there was a common solution, the woman sitting next to the vacant seat seemed tall enough to see, all she needed to do was politely ask her to switch seats.

“Excuse me, miss?” she says trying to get the woman’s attention “could we possibly switch seats? I can't see well in this one.”

The woman turns to Riko and smiles “such a pretty, polite girl. Of course! My friend and I will both move down one and you can have her seat” she replies gesturing to the woman next to her.

“Thank you very much” Riko says with a bright smile. The two women gather their things and move down a seat, then Riko shuffles in front of them to her new seat. When she finally plops down she lets out a sigh of relief. She was finally done with all the stress of that afternoon, done with You, and ready to relax and watch the movie she has been anticipating for weeks. It's supposed to be the most emotional movie of the year, or so the reviews say. Riko could barely wait for the previews to end and the film to start.

“You really aren't getting this, are you?” Riko hears a familiar voice say from beside her.

She slowly turns towards the voice and grits her teeth into a forced smile “what the hell are you doing here?”

It’s none other than You that returns Riko’s fake smile with a blank stare, “I think I should be asking you that, I sat down by a random woman. So why the hell are you there now?”

Riko grimaces, the woman she switched with was sitting next to You. What kind of horrible luck was that? Well she couldn't possibly ask to switch back now, that'd be rude.

“You know if you really did want to watch the movie with me you should of said something. I would have said no, of course, but it would be funny” You teases, snickering.

“Like hell!” Riko yells causing You to shh her, they were in a theater after all. More quietly Riko starts again “This is the last thing I wanted, I just asked to switch because I couldn't see, I had no idea you were here” she explains.

You rolls her eyes “yeah, sure.” Riko turns red with anger but before she can say anything the theater becomes silent as the lights turn off and the title of the movie comes on the large screen signalling the start of the film.

“Just keep quiet, I'm not missing this movie for you” Riko whispers. You doesn't say anything back.

A half hour into the movie Riko is completely enthralled, she munches on her popcorn with her eyes glued to the screen, so far the movie really was all she had hoped for. “Hey” she hears a whisper come from beside her but chooses to ignore it. That's what people always tell her to do with stray dogs, ‘if you ignore them they'll leave you alone,’ this was pretty much the same thing.

“Hey, pass the popcorn thot.”

Riko can't believe what she just heard, slowly turns her head to the side, fire in her eyes. “Excuse me?”

“I've had to listen to you crunch on that popcorn since the beginning of this movie, give me some” You says without looking away from the screen.

“You should have gotten your own damn popcorn” Riko replies and turns back to the movie “And don't call me that.”

“I didn't want popcorn before I had to listen to you, just give me some” You looks towards Riko this time.

“God fine, just shut up” Riko gives in thrusting the popcorn in You’s direction.

You takes some with a “thanks.”

Riko keeps the popcorn on the side You is on hoping it’ll keep her quiet. It's working until both of them reach for some popcorn at the same time and their hands touch in the bowl. Both of them pull away as if they just touched fire. “Eww” slips out of Riko’s mouth.

“Eww?” You questions, eyebrow raised.

“I don't know where your hands have been!” Riko complains.

“Nowhere but up Chika’s skirt” You teases sticking out her tongue.

“ugh, shut up!” Riko barely subdues her desire to shout. You snickers at her reaction.

After a few minutes Riko notices that You stopped eating the popcorn. Was she too mean? She shouldn’t care, she thinks. But even so, she moves the bucket into You’s field of vision to get her attention, “you can have the rest, I’m full” Riko whispers.

You hesitates, but slowly grabs the popcorn with a quiet “thanks.” She looks at Riko but Riko doesn't look back. Riko’s eyes were intensely focused on the screen, and she's anxiously biting her lip. You looks at the screen too, the movie is coming to its climax which explains Riko’s behavior. The movie up to this point has been a bittersweet tale of a young girl and her pet dog growing up and overcoming adversities together; it all ends in this final scene. You thinks it’s a little too predictable of an ending, but it's bound to get to some people.

At that moment You hears something that catches her attention, a sniffle? She hears the noise once again before she turns her head to look. It was exactly what she expected, but nothing like she expected it.

Riko’s eyes, glossed with tears, reflect the blue light of the screen like the ocean did the sky. It isn't like she is crying, it’s like tears are escaping, gently rolling down her cheeks. You stared and stared and stared; the sight is beautiful and despairing and mesmerizing and sad and You can't look away, but she knows she never wants to see it again.

Out of the corner of her eye Riko’s attention is grabbed by something light blue; once she focuses she sees it’s a handkerchief that You is holding out to her. When she looks towards You’s face her gaze isn't returned and her questions aren’t answered, so she looks at the handkerchief again; she's hesitant, but accepts the silent offer, actually quite grateful to have something to dry her face with. You’s hand retracts back into her lap, she doesn't say a word. Riko stares at the handkerchief again before whispering “thank you” under her breath and wiping her tears with it.

She clutches the handkerchief tightly for the remainder of the film, not wanting to bother You by returning it.

As soon as the credits roll and the dim cinema lights turn on You stands and begins to walk out, but Riko is caught in the crowd of people leaving. Once outside the theater room in the lobby Riko is finally able to look around as the crowd disperses; she spots You leaning against a wall by the door looking down at her phone.

“If you were going to wait here you could have waited to walk out with me” Riko points out as she walks up to You.

You hurriedly slips her phone in her pocket “Sorry, I… sorry” she says a little frantic.

Riko tilts her head questioningly, sorry isn't what she expected to hear “it's fine, don't worry about it” she reassures.

You fixes her baseball cap and turns towards the door “should we go?” she gestures.

Riko nods, and walks with You out of the cool air conditioned cinema and onto the hot summer street.

They walk side by side in an awkward silence for some time before Riko finally musters the courage to speak, “did you like the movie?” she asks.

“Yeah it was pretty good, kind of predictable” she says placing her finger to her chin, “I can't believe you cried!” You adds.

“The dog died!” Riko exclaims.

“Of course it did, that happens! I thought you were afraid of dogs anyway?” You questions.

“I am, that doesn't mean I want them to die!” Riko explains. “Weren't you even a little sad or are you completely heartless?” she shoots back.

“Hey I'm not heartless; it was very sad, just predictable!” You attempts to explain herself “I just don't cry easily” she mumbles.

“So the handkerchief is strictly for other girls?” Riko asks smugly, a smirk plastered across her face.

“It's not only for tears!” You answers while rolling her eyes.

Riko giggles, “Well, what do you use it for then?” she asks tilting her head.

You thinks for a moment before answering “sometimes I use them for wiping up small messes or cleaning my hands. When it's hot like it has been I use them to wipe away sweat. They’re just handy to have” You explains.

“Eww. I wiped my face with your sweat?” Riko asks with disdain.

“Shut up” You shoots back “I hadn't used it for anything yet, it's clean.”

Riko squints at You as if she can see a lie if she looks hard enough, “Okay, good” she says, satisfied in her search. “So, you have more than just this one?” she asks.

You realizes she unintentionally alluded to that and slowly nods, “yeah, I have a lot…” She trails off contemplating how much she really wanted to say. “My dad gives me them a lot, he's always carried one on him at all times” You explains, deciding there's no harm in telling Riko.

“Oh wow, so it's sort of like a collection?” Riko shows a genuine interest in what You is telling her.

You smiles, “yeah, he gets me one every Birthday and on other holidays too” You looks past Riko towards the sea they're walking beside while she talks. She subtly points directing Riko’s attention towards the sun setting against the ocean horizon. She doesn't miss a beat in her explanation,  “He sails to a lot of different places for work and tries to get me one wherever he goes” You pauses.

Riko’s eyes are focused on the shining orange light spreading across the ocean and the sky. Her ears are focused on You’s words and the way You talks about her father, it has some sort of warmth to it, nothing like the sweltering heat of the summer day. “You really look up to your father” Riko says exactly what she felt, in this moment it’s too much of a hassle for her to think about it.

You stares into Riko’s back. She thinks about how the red tones in the sky compliment her hair and how the sun gleams on her skin. “Yeah.”

Suddenly Riko turns and starts digging through her purse. “I’ll have to make sure to give this one back then” she says while pulling the blue handkerchief out and extending it towards You.

You looks at it for a second, the way it looks in place in Riko’s delicate hand and the way the sky blue contrasts her light pink painted nails, “you keep it” she says.

Riko tilts her head and lowers her hand to her side, “why?” she questions.

You isn't completely sure why herself, “just keep it, use it next time you cry or something” she says looking down at her sneakers.

Riko feels the heat of her reddening cheeks and turns her face to her shoes as well. “Thanks.”

A silence falls between them and Riko is prepared for it to last until she gets home. They both board their bus like strangers, but You finally speaks up while they’re sitting shoulder to shoulder on the cramped bus. “Sorry to pry but I was just wondering, are you close with your dad?”

Riko looks at You like she’s speaking a different language, but You doesn’t return her gaze. “Oh!” Riko burst out, processing what was said to her. “Umm, well we don’t have a bad relationship, he’s just away for work a lot” Riko explains, “but I guess so is yours…” Riko ponders for a moment, “I guess I’m just closer to my Mom” she concludes.

You finally looks up from the bus floor, “that’s cool too” she says with a bright smile.

“Yeah” Riko smiles back, “I really look up to her, I always have. She’s the one who got me to play piano when I was young.”

“Oh wow, that’s really, like, important to you, right?” You ckears her throat, “Well of course it is I mean” she starts to trip on her words.

Riko chuckles a little “yes it is very important to me, and so is my mother’s involvement in it” Riko explains.

“Right, that’s what I mean! My dad was always the biggest supporter of my diving” You says, “Not that my mom wasn’t, don’t get me wrong” she adds.

“No I get it, same here with my father, but when it comes to music my mom just, like-”

“Gets it more, right?”

“Right!”

Both of them are smiling from ear to ear. To both of their dismays their conversation is interrupted by the bus driver announcing it was Riko’s stop.

“Oh, this is where I get off” Riko says standing up and looking around making sure she has all her things, once she’s sure she looks back to You “Sorry.”

You shakes her head “don’t worry about it, I’ll see you tomorrow at school we can talk more.”

Riko’s smile is stunning to You “Yeah, it’s a promise” Riko says back, “See you” she says with a wave

“See you tomorrow” You calls back watching Riko carefully climb out of the bus. You breathes out once she’s out of sight and tries her best to ignore the racing of her heart.

Riko watches the bus leave, and as she begins to skip home she holds the handkerchief to her chest and thinks for once, just maybe, she was a little sad to see You go.

Prompt idea! How about something happened to one of Sport's eyes (poked, chemicals got in there, nothing /permanent/) and while it recovers, he had to wear an eye patch. He can't do anything too Extra while wearing it cuz he doesn't have depth perception. Robbie wears his Rotten Beard costume to cheer him up.

Sportacus can’t help but feel a bit frustrated by the situation. It had been a slight mishap during one of his rescues, one that ended with him yelping in pain, a hand covering his eye with a broken branch lying next to him. The kids had understandably been scared but he had assured them that he’ll be fine.

Thankfully, there’s no permanent injury. He just had to cover it up while it recovers. Out of the options given, he chose a simple medical eye patch, something white that would still match his uniform. Having this injury doesn’t mean that he’s out of action. He could still move around, jump and flip and look after LazyTown.

Though, it quickly became obvious that it’ll be tougher than he expected. Having only one functioning eye at the moment, his depth perception took a considerable hit. He knows how to judge distances but he can’t tell the exact range. Just something that small is enough for him to miscalculate jumps from one surface to the next, leading to more than one embarrassing stumble.

In the end, the kids were the one who told him to rest up for the day. They promise to play safely so he wouldn’t have to come to their rescue. It stings something fierce but he understands that they are worried for him, which he feels guilty for. 

He’s the hero who is supposed to keep the town and its citizens safe. He should be the only one worrying. 

That’s how Sportacus found himself sitting on one of the park benches, hunched forward with his elbows on his knees, chin resting atop splayed palms. What he initially thought would be a slight problem turns out to be a lot more trouble than its worth. He’s able to move around, but without the level of speed and precision that he’s so used to. 

Apparently, he’s becoming a bit of a liability in his current state. It’s not explicitly stated, and he doubts that the citizens would even think that way but the thought curls around his mind. Just with the combination of everything, he can’t help but feel… blue.

Just as he lets out a sigh, something comes at him from his functioning view. Instincts kicked in and he flips over the bench, stumbling slightly but keeping his balance. His uncovered eyes widened at the figure before him.

“Robbie…?” 

“Argh, who is this handsome Robbie fellow you speak of? It is I, Rotten Beard!” It’s been quite some time since he last saw this costume but there’s no denying the full pirate outfit that the villain wore, complete with the beard, eye patch and… balloon sword? Ah, that was what ‘attacked’ him before. 

Sportacus looks a bit confused. It’s not usual for Robbie to recycle his old costumes. “What are you–?”

“Alas, you prove to be a worthy adversary, even with that!” Rotten Beard points at his eyepatch. “But copying me does not mean I will go easy on you! We still have a score to settle from last time!” 

Again, nothing’s really clicking to him. That adventure had been so long ago that he can’t particularly remember the details. Sure, there had been an unmasking of his disguise but he didn’t think it’s anything that warrants a second encounter.

“I challenge you to a duel, you scallywag!” The disguised villain continues in his pirate-y accent. Another balloon sword is pulled out and it’s thrust into his hands faster than he could blink. Sportacus blinks, gaze flickering from the sword to Rotten Beard. 

“Are you sure you want to do this?”

Rotten Beard might just look a tiny bit exasperated before it’s covered up by a scowl. “Of course! Show to me that you’re still a worthy adversary to the great Rotten Beard!” 

Oh. Oh.

Sportacus understands now. The realization causes his lips to curl up into a large smile. Robbie is trying to cheer him up. He knew the self proclaimed lazy villain had some good in him. 

“Wipe that smug smile off before I cut you to ribbons!” Rotten Beard demanded, looking just a wee bit embarrassed. Sportacus swallows down the thank you in favor of pulling off that supposedly smug smile. 

“Well then, you’ll have to work for it, oh great Rotten Beard.”

The pirate looks a tad surprised by the sudden snark but it pulls out a wide smirk from him. 

“I’ll be teaching you a lesson for that lip!” He settles a few feet away from him, brandishing his balloon sword. 

Sportacus allows himself one more happy little smile before getting into character himself. It would only be fair to give Rotten Beard a proper duel, after all.

The thing about Isak is that he does not typically do emotions. Not for the lack of feeling them, but for the need of storing them; compartmentalise them.

Growing up, while privileged in the money area, less privileged in the childhood department.

 It is not as though he was lacking love; he knows both his mother and his father loves him. Logically, he knows that. His mother did not yell at them in hatred, she cried at them for fear of their well-being. But for all it was worth; the instability in his childhood left Isak in care of his little sister Lea more times than he should have at his age. And comforting her became his priority, while there was no one there to comfort him.

 He was the one hiding all sharp objects in the house when he saw the look in his mother’s eyes. The one that told him that his mother is not going to listen to reason. He was the one who taught Lea how to bike. He was the one who helped her with her homework. He was the one who stayed up at night with her to make a pillow fort and make her fall asleep by reading Harry Potter for the seventeenth time.

 Emotions rarely helped him. Logic and reason always did.

 So, when Even appeared in his life, a tornado of butterflies kept Isak on his toes; almost lifting from the ground with happiness. Even was not safe. He was foreign ground. He meant walking out with emotions and feeling them. He meant ripping out his beating heart and hand it over to him. He meant stepping out of his comfort zone and face the day of prejudice. But despite all that, he was safety to Isak. And then a minefield.

 It did not take long for Isak to understand that Even was rather peculiar. Sometimes he would say something, and jump too fast to next part of his sentence and leave Isak to try to piece together what he was saying. Sometimes he would make rash decisions, and though exhilarating as they were, it was always scary.

 A nagging thought in his head saying that something is not quite right.

 And then it would be all over. Isak put logic away in favour of his feelings.

 In hindsight, he realises that he was probably high on those feelings, because he had had them locked down for most of his childhood.

 His entire body is shaking now, and the cold breezes definitely does not help.

Are you at home?

 It takes five tries to type that down because apparently, the touch screen is sensitive to water. And it seems like his eyes have turned into floodgates kept open.

 He chokes back a sob when he receives the reply.

 (01:17) No, I’m out having a beer

 Isak can’t remember where he put his keys. He can’t feel them in his pockets. Did he leave them in the suite?

 He sways a little at the memory. How Even and Isak had—

 Isak wants to type out an entire essay on what’s up.

 His world has changed, his feet has lost ground—and not because of a tornado of butterflies, but because a rug he had not known he was standing on had been pulled away.

Everything’s gone to hell

 A car honks loudly, and he instinctively jumps aside, even though his heart is aching for the pain to end.

 “Fucking idiot, stay on the side-walk!” he hears the passenger shout from the window.

 Fucking idiot.

 Fucking. Idiot.

 He chokes back another sob and dries his cheeks with his right arm. His left arm presses Even’s clothes closer to his chest, as if it was a bandage to his invisible wounds.

Where are you

 Eskild. Eskild is safe. Get to Eskild.

 Eskild is the guy who took him home and pulled his hair back when Isak was throwing up—from anxiety or from alcohol consumption, he’s not quite sure. Eskild is the guy who reassured Isak time and time again that he wants nothing from Isak, and definitely not—that.

 Eskild is the guy who gave him a place to stay, and dramatically complained that Isak should not have to live in the basement, but also sneaked Isak some of Noora’s fish cakes when Isak had finally admitted he hadn’t eaten in a while.

 (Eskild is also the guy Isak will never tell he hadn’t eaten for two days.)

On my way home

 Home. The place where Even and Isak had almost kissed. The place where Even and Isak had kissed. The place where Even and Isak had been smoking and cuddled and sucked each other’s dicks.

 Do you think he’s in love with you? He isn’t.

 He isn’t.

I’ll be right there.

 He walks the entire way back. His fingers and legs and feet are cold. Numb. He has no idea how long it took, but Eskild is outside waiting for him.

 “Oh my God,” Eskild says frantically, pulling Isak into a hug. “What happened? You’re so cold. Did you walk home? Is that clothes?”

 Every atom in his body, down to the protons and electrons that keep his body in check, vibrates as he tries to hold back the tears. He sniffles and hiccups and shakes his hand when Eskild presses a kiss on his forehead.

 “Isak—what happened? Did Even do something? What’s going on?”

 “He—he—he doesn’t—“

 “He doesn’t what?” Eskild asks, rubbing his back.

 “Doesn’t love me,” Isak says, and for some reason, his body gives up—or relaxes, but the floodgates fly open again and he can feel his head swaying.

 “Woah—woah, don’t fall!” Eskild says, and holds him up.

 Logic and reason. Logic and reason and not feeling is much better than feeling like his heart is bleeding and his stomach is carved open.

 But for now, he can’t help but feel every bit of needle that is puncturing his lungs, until Eskild half-carries him inside and lays him down on his bed and stays with him until he passes out from exhaustion.

 It’s only restless sleep for Isak that night.

 It’s just a sick idea he has right now.

Bonus sequel to Serotonin, Dopamine, & Steinway. Upon further inspection (and editing) I decided to create a separate narrative for kuroo and yn (dog shelter volunteer) thus removing the lengthy bullet points at the end of the OP found in the link.

Serotonin Dopamine & Steinway

It’s been about a year into your freshman year at your university when your friend (along with Kenma) had texted you inviting you to a Nekoma reunion. Apparently, according to the message, it was to be held at the local park and the invitation mentioned to bring your dogs. Upon graduation day from high school, you reported to the animal shelter to check up on your three favorite pups: Serotonin, Dopamine, and Steinway. You were pleasantly surprised to see the newest volunteer there: Kuroo Tetsuro, former captain and fellow Nekoma grad.

“You’re here too, huh?” his voice greeted your ears as your lips curled into an adorable smile.

“Mmhm,” you began. The dogs in the back of the kennel began to bark their afternoon salutations toward you. “I wanted to say hello to Serotonin, Dopamine, and Steinway before I leave for university…”

Kuroo arched an eyebrow in your direction as you exhaled a sigh. You give him a nod to have a seat on the floor while you went to the back to unlock the kennel doors for the three dogs. Thus far, the trio had to been comfortable enough around Kuroo to finally let him give them their dinner.

“Hey, y/n?” Kuroo asks. He places a hand behind Dopamine’s ear, gently scratching an itch that makes the English mastiff growl in approval. You were sitting in front of Kuroo with Serotonin, the shiba, on your left and Steinway, the Irish wolfhound, on your right.

“Yeah, Tetsuro?”

Hearing your say his first name causes his cheeks to be tinted a light shade of pink before the crafty captain blurted out the following:

“Go out with me.”

You tried to play coy with Kuroo, yet you eagerly blinked and nodded twice in accepting his request.

It’s been a year since then currently and when you found out you and Kuroo were headed to different universities located not too far from each other, you both decided to fill out the forms for adoption for all three dogs. Serotonin, Dopamine, and Steinway have been happily living with you since your apartment complex near campus allowed pets for a lower fee than the one that your boyfriend lived in. When you received a call from Kuroo asking you about the reunion, you asked him if bringing the dogs was ok and how comfortable Kodzume-kun was with dogs.

“Obviously,” Kuroo says. “Let’s bring them.”

“Mmkay love,” you say. “I’ll see you at the reunion.”

Saturday afternoon could not come fast enough. It was the date set aside by Yaku where everyone was mostly free to join. Kai, Yaku, along with Kenma and Kuroo had already arrived at the park and had rented a pavilion for the day; other friends from both Fukrodani and Karasuno were also mentioned to be attendance. The news was brought to your attention by Kiyoko-chan, your neighbor, whom you recall upon first meeting her, was the previous manager for the volleyball club in high school. Earlier that morning, you thought of asking her to help walk the dogs to the park, but alas, timing was not on your side as you took a deep breath in your apartment preparing to give your “sons” a peptalk.

“Serotonin, Dopamine, and Steinway,” you began. “When we get to the park, I want you all to be on your best behavior, ok?”

A chorus of barks had returned back to you. You grabbed each of their leashes from the coat closet by your apartment door while yelling a bawdy, “stay!” over your shoulder. About fifteen to twenty minutes later, you headed out the door with the dogs leading the way.

As your luck would have it, you arrive to the park about forty-five minutes later, finally locating the small barbecue party. Kuroo seemed to have his back turned while he explained to Bokuto that his significant other would be bringing the dogs he had co-adopted with her. What he didn’t expect was you unleashing all three dogs to tackle your boyfriend (and Bokuto) to the ground. You were laughing hysterically while Yaku straight up recorded the whole thing.

“Alright! Alright!” Kuroo exclaims in between having his face licked by Serotonin and Steinway’s tongues. Bokuto was trying to pet Dopamine as a greeting, but alas, he too fell victim to the adorable greeting too.

As you regain your composure, you beckon each of the dogs back to where you were now standing.

“Hey there babe,” Kuroo greets while rising to his feet. He brushes off the excess dirt on his jeans before walking toward you, pressing his lips against your cheek.

“Y/N? That’s who you’re dating?!” Bokuto asked as he too rose to his feet.

“Well, yeah. That was what I was trying to tell you before they tackled us to the ground,” Kuroo says.

You felt your cheeks grow warmer because you felt a bit foolish releasing your dogs on them. However, you spot Kiyoko talking with Kenma and her fellow alumni from Karasuno as well so you quickly excuse yourself after being formerly introduced to ‘professional-athlete in training’ Bokoto Kotaro. His energy level reminds you of one of the first dogs you took care of at the shelter, but you make no mention of it to the former ace. Kuroo takes your hand and he leads you to where Kenma’s group is. Your three dogs are quick to greet Kiyoko and sniff Kenma. Serotonin stays by Kuroo while Dopamine is receiving headpats from Kiyoko; Steinway sits between you and the former captain of Karasuno’s team.

“This is y/n,” Kuroo says with a cheshire like grin. “My partner in crime.”

Kenma scoffs at his friend’s statement, but nonetheless continues playing a game on his phone (apparently you come to find out that it wasn’t a game: he was trying to get into local entrepreneurship program via contacting local streaming management for TWITCH).

“And I’m sure Sawamura, Azumane, and Sugawara had heard Shizu-chan of me before too,” you say. “Unless we didn’t meet at the pub the one night Suga had one too many shots?”

At this admittance, the silver-haired university student blushed twice as hard as you did.

“That was you?!” Sugawara exclaimed in feign surprise, offering up an apology about spilling his cocktail over your dress shirt at the pub.

“Mmhm, whom else was I going to call Suga? I told you guys my neighbor has dogs, I literally meant them!” Kiyoko explains. Kuroo raises an eyebrow, but the glances he gives you are one of amusement to say the least.

Sawamura chuckles and Azumane bowed his head in second-hand embarrassment (Azumane barely recalls the night at the pub because he had woken up with his first proper hangover).

“That being said, you really don’t want to know the story behind the night at the pub, Tetsuro,” you say with laughter behind your irises when you squeeze his hand. “I’ll tell you all about it later tonight, alright?”

Kuroo nods.

“So, mind introducing us to these good boys?” Azumane asks.

“Oh! How could I forget,” you say. “This here is Serotonin next to Tetsu, he was a little puppy when we met; with Shizu-chan you have the lovely Dopamine; and between me and Sawamura, that is Steinway. I know they’re big boys, but they are the absolute sweetest. Besides, I love them all equally. Now let’s get some barbecue. I think we’d have enough time to catch up when we eat, yeah?”

As the barbecue picnic party began to dwindle as the sun sank further into the sky, you exchange phone numbers with Bokuto (who literally, yet charmingly, begs you to let him babysit the dogs during finals week), Sawamura and Sugawara. Your boyfriend had warned each of them that you were happily taken, but you teased back saying that he was lucky you felt the same way earning a panicked blink from him. Soon enough, it was just you, the three dogs (aka your “sons”) and Kuroo at the pavillon. The leashes were placed on the picnic table where you were seated comfortably so with Kuroo looming over you. He stood between your thighs while you glanced up at him with your bottom lip caught between your teeth.

“Now now, don’t look at me like that kitten,” Kuroo’s breath and voice dances across the tip of your nose as he leans forward more. Your eyes telegraphed a different kind of hunger only he knew he could satiate, yet instead, you braced yourself for a kiss you were not expecting. You feel his lips whisper something dangerously low in your right ear before you feel his lips press against the side of your neck. You couldn’t help the gasp which turned into a slight moan of his name when your hands gripped his forearms a little too hard. Kuroo didn’t pull back nor did he restrain himself from tracing the highest points of your face from your neckline higher before Steinway gave a heartfelt whine in approval, causing Kuroo to pause his actions with a smirk firmly planted on his lips.

“W-we should go to your place, hm?” you ask. Your breathing hitched in your throat before you heard your heartbeat increase in your ears; you knew this game Kuroo was playing and it wasn’t fair the last time you had sex with him you were his “fucked out baby.” Today, today you were going to switch it up with him and be the best brat tamer you could. Apparently, finding this out from each other lead to a few interesting nights where you both wound up apologizing to your neighbors because of how loud you two had became during the night. You keep the image of waking up with Kuroo’s sleeping body behind you seared into your memories since it was one of the few times you’ve seen his hair completely untouched by styling products (and it laid flat). His arms hugged your waist loosely and this soft feeling of being loved by him surrounds you; you don’t bring it up often, but having the thought of waking up like that moment again often explains why both of you try to make enough time for each other as possible.

Your cheeks were just as brightly flushed as his considering one of the dogs had to interrupt this moment. Kuroo’s hand cups the left side of your cheek and effortlessly caresses your face with his thumb. You could hear the chortle threatening to escape Kuroo’s lips, yet he agrees.

“C’mon love, let’s go home,” Kuroo says, grabbing Steinway’s leash while clipping it on to the collar. You do the same with Serotonin and Dopamine’s leashes before you follow behind Kuroo.

“By the way, I hope you don’t mind but I want to be your pillow prince tonight!” Kuroo says to you over his shoulder while blowing a kiss in your direction.

“Don’t keep me waiting darling!” you holler right behind him.
