"That's what I thought."
Leaning back on the wall beside her bed, arms resting behind her head, Surge's current plan is to have a nice cat-nap before going on one of her self-imposed patrols. That would have to be after she ate, though, can't run around heroically saving people's lives on an empty stomach!!
"..."
She's bolt upright, and running out the door after the fox.
"HEY!! HEY!! He didn't even ask what milkshake I wanted--!"
Are you Kit's father?
— ;; ESSENTIALLY BECOMING STONE UPON HEARING the query, hands positioned over a saponaceous, waterlogged sink briefly lose their understanding of feeling, dropping the kitschy mug beneath the depths. Swiveling around instantly, panicked eyes landing on the little fennec of mention, those wired shoulders drop with slight relief upon noting that he (seemingly) hadn't heard, attention glued to the coloring book with a mammoth box of untrodden crayons as his tools to aid him in filling in the printed pictures. Prickling nausea expeditiously stems from the idea of the imminent conversation had those words have been heard.
Heaving the deepest of sighs, he turns back to resume cleaning the dishes that remain in the sink. Dinner had concluded close to thirty minutes ago— honey garlic chicken—, not that it was any good in his own self-chastising opinion. Sonic had always been the cook back home, a damn good one at that, a feat that Chronos simply could never hope to compare against no matter how many years pass. Dunking hands beneath the lukewarm water, brushing the sponge through the bristles of forks and unto the surface of sauce-laden plates. Seeing the face of the mug reemerge gives him pause yet again. One of the countless Christmas gifts he'd gotten for Kit, previously filled with a specially-made glass of chocolate milk from his own hands.
Of course the answer is no, right? They're brothers. He's big bro; the cool older one who buys candy for his little sibling with his allowance just because. The one who beats up the bullies on the playground and makes all the other kids in the schoolyard jealous when he rolls in at pickup time in his cool ride.
It shouldn't matter that he's also the one who tucks Kit in at bedtime, who reads him all the bedtime stories in the softest voice, who rocks him back and forth and sings the lullabies when he wakes up screaming and crying. It's natural for him to be the one to make all three meals and to do all the laundry and keep their living space neat and tidy. There's nothing unordinary about the way he spoils Kit rotten, holding his hand tight from the point where they cross the street 'til they wheel the grocery cart up to greet the cashier, picking up anything he finds interest in along the way and then takes him out to spend the day having fun after chores.
It's all normal. It's what Sonic had done for him at that age, after all.
...Sonic, the man he now proudly refers to as a father.
Dawning realization hits Chronos like a truck. Sonic had literally, in every sense of the word, given up what remained of his youth to raise him. He had done what Chronos is doing now. And how much of a presence Sonic had become to his young self left an impact so colossal that even now he finds himself mimicking those behaviors instinctively.
To Kit, he isn't just his big brother. He's his mom, his dad, his white picket fence.
❝...I don't want to answer that question,❞ he says plainly after the longest silence, wide eyes shuffling from the water to the stranger, ❝please leave.❞
starter for @sorrowfulsidekick!
There are lots of abandoned warehouses in Sunset Heights. Former Resistance outposts that have since been unmanned. Unprotected. The Wisp-on weapons that had been used during the Resistance are being kept by the hundreds here, shut away in crates for safekeeping--or, well, not-so-safekeeping, since Shadow's been called in due to reports of massive amounts of the inventory going missing. Which doesn't mean that it's a box or two that's suddenly vanishing--this isn't something that can simply be chalked up to some trainee misplacing a box on occasion.
The hedgehog warps on the top of one of the warehouses, squinting down at the small paths between the block-like buildings, trying to discern the path the culprit might be taking. Of course, he can't account for things like entrance via the sewers here, or perhaps the culprit being a chameleon, or maybe a bird, but at least here he can get a good vantage point on possible points of entry. Once he's satisfied, he jumps carefully down and uses a set of Chaos Control warps to blip in through the warehouse, keeping his steps few and those that he does take very quiet as he checks the rows for any suspicious activity.
Story Event: The Easter Incident, and Everything Afterwards
Okay, so it's been a bit of time since this happened, and work has been a bit draining, so sorry that I've taken so long with this. However, this is going to be a brief writeup on the main events that have happened since a house party Tails threw on Easter.
All of this has taken place on Discord between myself, @red-eclipse, @timeclipsed / @dreamingofeos and @sorrowfulsidekick.
Warning: This is an exceedingly long post. View at your own risk. The two main points are this - Tails now has four tails and a new ability, and Fleetway Super Sonic has been introduced into the AU.
Me: I feel like I should put more in this TLDR but idk what @timeclipsed: Also add never let Jackie cook
Colette, out of the loop: "Wait...you're a dad?" Her tail puffed up as she asked the question.

"Huh? Y-yeah, I've got three kids. Blossom, she was grown from a seed from a girl I... u-used to know... she's an alien, the last one I know of existing. The last two I sorta... took in after saving them from Robotnik. I don't know if they really see me as their dad, and I am trying to get them home, but... at the very least, I'm literally all Blossom has to call a dad."

"Fine, fine. I'm--"
Breathing. Light through the tiny window of their dwelling. How did she feel...?
"...I'm fine, pipsqueak. Stupid dream, that's all... M-must have been fighting somethin', y'know? Kicked so hard I did it in real life, hah..."
No reason to give the kid an anxious spiral over her condition...
