Imagine Tommy hearing Laurel laugh for the first time since the yacht accident and wanting hear it again because he loves it and tries to make her laugh constantly.
Because when she laughs, he laughs, and they’re not broken anymore from him losing a brother and a friend, and she losing her lover and her sister.
But then they both spiral into a depression alternatively--like Laurel falls deep, and Tommy picks her back up again. Then Tommy falls and Laurel’s there to help him. It’s only when they’re alone that they’re at their worst when they fall into it.
And it’ll be to the point where they can’t get rid of the pain of losing the people that they love unless they’re together and they can forget. So that’s why they pick up the friends with benefits relationship that they had before Oliver comes back in season 1 because it’s easier for them to heal emotionally when they’re physical with each other, make a connection with another human being that makes them feel alive.
They saved each other.
