Inktober day 4. MURKY
knights of the round table week | day 6: the knights' relationship with magic
merlin & lancelot
(quotes, i feel like suit ships, characters) feel free to request and send me a quote, you’d like me to use with a ship or character from (merlin).
@merlinktober 2025 day twenty-seven: trifle
Mercelot is such a good fucking ship
Merlin constantly has to hide who he really is or he could be killed. He doesn't know what true safety feels like
And in here comes Lancelot, who doesn't even make a big deal out of it, the idea of telling someone doesn't even cross his mind. He even encourages Merlin to use his magic. He truly sees all of Merlin, sees everything that makes him up. And he finds it beautiful.
He is described as the most noble of them all but he sees everything Merlin does without thanks, with no recognition. That rant Merlin had in season 2 about not being able to sit around doing nothing since the day he arrived in Camelot without any thanks? Probably wouldn't have happened with Lancelot around. He sees all the things Merlin does and he thinks Merlin should be praised for it
Also, Merlin constantly has to save people, he even lost count just how many times he has to save Arthur's life by the beginning of season 2. And then those two met for the first time when Lancelot saved Merlin?!
From Lancelot's perspective too, he has trained so much to become a knight and he finally finds a person who believes in him?! Who believes in him so much he would commit a crime for him?! And then he finds out Merlin has magic and oh wow, this guy risks his own life so everyone else would life on a regular basis. He needs a break, like clearly. And Merlin inspires him to be the best version of himself he can be
I could talk about more stuff here but I want to end it here because we don't need sadness on this post. Those two are amazing together and I fucking love this ship
Am I obsessed? Of course no- yes, yes I am
i think as time goes on and i become less entagled in the merlin fandom i start preferring merthur as a platonic relationship more and more. and hear me out here - not platonic as in "they're just friends" way, but platonic in a "this is way too fucked up to be plausibly explained by romance" kinda way
isn't it just more fascinating when they both *do* have romantic partners, but then the fucked up destiny-entangled dynamic between them makes any amatonormative romantic relationships effectively impossible for them? which is what makes arwen and merwaine an and merlance so interesting to me (especially the last two! because they might love merlin and merlin might love them but also arthur is always gonna be merlin's priority. you can be the love of his life but arthur still comes frist! isn't taht fucked up?) and for gwen, who married arthur, became queen and still was not the last thing on his mind when her husband was dying? and merlin is her best friend, who always was the biggest supporter of her relationship - it's never been about competition between them. she trusts him with arthur's life completely. and always, between her and arthur, merlin would be here
adnd i think this is way more compelling than any romantic reading of merthur could ever be (fight me i'm aro)
