I rarely take critic's reviews of films very seriously but sometimes I read one and really despair of their credentials.
Saw Soderbergh's Black Bag - it was fantastic and everyone should go see it. It's the kind of film we need more of and it deserves to be successful.
Anyway, the critic from Slant had this gem: "Black Bag settles into a third act of derivative reveals and exposition dumps. And by the time the film comes to the end of its brisk runtime, it feels like nothing much has actually happened, despite all the narrative convolutions."
Which is one of those 'tell me you didn't understand the film without telling me you didn't understand the film'
The 'feels like nothing much has happened' is a feature not a bug. it's about the lives of spies, in international spycraft stalemate is the goal.
And this movie did have a lot happen to the characters and nothing feels like an expo dump but rather a wrapping up. They use terms and plot points that circle back around and then you figure them out - very little is spoonfed. This maybe the problem for the reviewer, since so much media is now made to be watched while on the phone or making dinner.
oooough... the need to share my art across the world and the constantly growing feeling of different shames towards said art... always a great battle in me
Here's the problem: I have a vivid concept for a Diavolo and Giorno animatic to Eat Your Young, but I have never in my life completed an animatic
I just have the concept of Diavolo and Giorno doing a pas de deux together as other dancers come in (the VA cast, in order of appearance in the series) and one by one either crumple to the stage and lay immobile or exit the stage until it's just... Diavolo, Giorno and the Bodies
Grief Is
(Inspired by MyHouse.wad, so could potentially be a little spoiler-y. Perhaps go and experience it for yourself before reading on. Unless you don't care, in which case cool)
Grief is the phantom of a Discord ping, echoing through your head as you check again and again, hoping that this time they'll come back.
Grief is a two-headed dog that bays for your blood. Never resting, never relenting, it will not stop until it has you between its jaws.
Grief is a familiar world made strange and frightening, warping and fraying around you as you flail for something, anything, to break your neverending fall.
Grief is a robber that spirits your very breath away. Through black smoke and murky water, the very act of living becomes an unbearable ordeal.
Grief is wishing you could fall into a mirror, live another life, just for one last chance at something real.
Grief is a plane forever losing altitude, forever doomed to crash. It is at once unstoppable force, immovable object, and catastrophic impact.
Grief is a beach where time's corpse lies rotting in the sun. Caught in its snare, every instant asking what-if becomes its own eternal hell.
pink flloyd is not MRI music, a better choice would've been Weezer or 100 Gecs
It’s a tragedy that the Tumblrwoman poll doesn’t let me vote for my beloved spider girl, but there is another spider girl I can vote for.
What I’m saying is, #Vriskasweep.
CuriousB’s Question Time
I’ve got a couple of questions for those more knowledgeable than I.
Firstly, does anyone know of a mod or a way of having one Sim get a crush on or fall in love with another Sim without having any romantic interactions between them? After all, that’s often how it happens in real life!
Also, when a Sim adopts a baby, does the game create a brand-new Sim using the default (or replacement) face templates, or does it have a ready-made stock of adoptees in waiting somewhere? I’m thinking of having a couple adopt, but I’d like the game to generate a baby using my default-replacement face templates, not just give me one of the vanilla Maxis templates.
Thanks!
