I like the idea of writing prompts.  I sometimes try to do prompts.  Somehow they always go just amazingly sideways, though.

I admire writers who routinely pop out short fics from prompts in the same vague sort of way that I admire, say, contortionists, or people who can sing really good falsetto--like, wow, that’s cool and interesting to see and I’ll develop that ability right after I pop out my new third arm.
