I have such a love hate relationship with my blog name/ao3 handle. On the one hand, It’s Cinderella-ish! is the best, funniest episode of Fruits Basket. I love it so much! (I may or may not have an essay or several coming on why it’s so good!) And the related manga chapters are pure gold, too.

On the other hand, it definitely gives the vibe of “quirky, clumsy Disney princess” which is not what I want in my fannish name.

I’ve thought about changing it. I picked it in kind of a hurry. But I also don’t want to get in the habit of changing my fannish name, because I don’t even know what I’d change it to, and I don’t want to open that up as an option because I would totally end up changing my name every few weeks. 😅

And the episode really is that good…

Sorta Cinderella: "The main characters' class has to do a play & do a random casting that gets cast Absolutely Wrong, so instead of making the goth girl play Classic Cinderella & the temperamental punk play Classic Prince Charming, they rewrite the play so the roles suit the actors, creating a comedic masterpiece where Cinderella is fully focused on opening a yakiniku shop with her beloved step-sister and the prince is just doing his best to get through the night with his sanity intact. Also despite it largely being just a funny sub-plot, the author still managed to sneak in some Feelings Things for a couple of the characters during the course of the play."

"I won't ask what you wish for, I only hope it comes true by your own two hands" is a really powerful line of dialogue for someone who is playing the fairy godmother in the weirdest Cinderella adaptation known to man.

Oh god. It took me 13 years to realise it... but the reason Arisa snaps during the school play is that it's Cinderella! You know, the famous love story where in two people who were never supposed to meet based on their circumstances do?

And the Prince was just going about his daily routine really when in drops cinderella? Who had escaped from her abusive and controlling household for just one evening and they danced for a short while and somehow immediately fell in love?

The play was never about Kyoru. It was ALWAYS about Arisa and Kureno. Where Arisa is Prince Charming, and Kureno is Cinderella.
