This is my own take on Nina Katchadourian's sorted books. It was refreshing to see how much work She created with the materials she had at hand. Also a reminder that there is really no excuse of "not having the right material" not to make art. Her collection Curiouser is at the @blantonmuseum check it out! #getcuriouser #blantonblockparty #blantonmuseum #books #sortedbooks (at The Blanton Museum of Art)

Sorted Books
Politic
Anna (she/her)
For this assignment I went through my boyfriend’s book collection. He takes great pride in his books and is especially interested in political books. I used them to make statements on politics of gender and war, and a sculpture of a landscape of the political spectrum.
First #artassignment - that happened while thinking about another art assignment that involves a page from one of these books.
Trying to rest and recover from pneumonia I watched a number of theartassignment videos and felt happy and inspired and reflective.

When this Art Assignment was first uploaded I was very excited to do it, but unfortunately I had just moved to a new place where I basically had no books at my disposal at all. Now, I finally got a chance to give it a go with my dad’s library. There are two reasons why I really wanted to use his books for this: 1) I don’t have a very close relationship with my dad and wanted to explore that. 2) His library consists almost exclusively of German language sci-fi - not my thing at all, which is why I found it interesting to work with.
The bonus portrait is obviously not a portrait of him, nor of his world view, as far as I know, but I couldn’t resist making use of some of the more dramatic titles to attempt a portrait of our planet instead.
I’ve enjoyed this project tremendously and I expect I will make more of these, with different people’s books, in the future :)
