Teo can be seen leaning on a poll outside Juan’s General Store. It may seem casual but to a ghost, leaning on something without passing it through requires a delicate focus. Luckily, he had decades of practice to make it look effortless. His eyes never leave the shop. More specifically, he is looking at the manager of the store. With the sudden heat wave around the city, he is keeping a close eye on Pablo. Who knows what might happen? But-- “God, I would take my shirt off if it would make things better...” he mutters to himself. Even without a body, ghosts can feel heat. He may not sweat or faint from this scorching heat, but it still is remarkably unpleasant. “Just call it a day, Pablo.”

“IF GOD MEANT for life to thrive on this earth, I don’t understand why He made it so hot.” Pablo mutters to himself as he locks the door to the general store and steps out into the night air. He knows already that there’s no point in trying to sleep tonight; the visions will taunt him before he’s even dreaming. Instead, he’s taken to the streets, hoping the humid air will bring back some of the warmth in his hands, numb from the many fans and air conditioners working at full force throughout the store. He stays strictly to the right on the street, within the dominion of the streetlights, straying far from any patch of darkness. There’s an energy tonight, nagging at him despite his attempts at peace. Oh glorioso San Benito, modelo sublime de todas las virtudes, vasija pura de la gracia de Dios... Trying to ignore the sweat beading on his temples, Pablo rounds a corner, only to come to a stop when he sees a familiar face — everyone is at least nearly familiar to the man who runs the only general store in town. “Apologies,” he manages to his newfound company. “Odd night to be taking a walk, I know.” He manages a charming smile despite the anxiousness gnawing at him, ever polite.

“...yet they say global warming is a scheme.“ Ricardo growls under the breath as he marches under the unforgiving sun. It’s fucking January, and the highest of today is over 100. Of course, the Tuner knows that this nightmare weather is not all about climate change. He can sense the twisted life-force in the heated air. It must be a phantom or a magic, and either way, it must be strong enough to cover the entire city. The problem is that the range is too wide and he can’t track down the source. “Fuck, I give up.“ He sighs out, exhausted from walking all over the city. He flops down on the curb. He will get some rest and go find somewhere with air conditioning. A minute or two later, he realizes there is a shade over him from someone standing in front. “Y’know I was just sunbathing.” He jokes wryly.

The streets after midnight are completely deserted. There is not even one or two drunkards stumbling back home. With the moon hiding behind clouds, streetlamps are the only light. Just as the air begins to feel as if it shivers, a slender figure appears at the end of the road. The lights flicker violently before the darkness deepens in the street.

Tasha sat on the bench aware of the person beside her. Thoughts of all that had happened to her the last few months were written all over her face. Things were so strange and foreign now. Just when she had begun getting used to her afterlife Leon showed up and her very foundation cracked. The idea that she only existed for Aidan, which had been her core since her death, seemed to lack detail. 

“Is wrong to be happy when someone you love is not?” The words slipped from her lips. Tasha wasn’t even certain the person beside her could see her sitting there.

Boredom. That was the one thing that could truly affect Leon Castellano in some way. He wasn’t good at being bored, at being left at the mercy of idleness. He wasn’t feeling sleepy at all in spite of the hour. Sitting on his bed, feeling restless, the familiar itch to move and seek for a thrill was beginning to burn stronger and stronger within him. It didn’t take him too long to decide he had nothing to do at his apartment so he just put on a shirt, threw on a jacket on his way out and ventured out into the night streets of Port Ashborne.

He lit and smoked a full cigarette as he wandered around. He had just tossed the cigarette butt to the pavement when the light on some street lamps flickered ahead. The Tuner stopped on his tracks for a moment, his awareness and half-assed spiritual sense telling him he wasn’t alone anymore. He smirked. There was a phantom very close by. Now, that was the kind of excitement he needed. Leon headed right in the direction where the being’s presence felt strongest, walking into a narrow street. He moved alongside a wall of mossy, darkened bricks. That caught his attention and he soon knew why. The wall’s surface shifted subtly, a chameleon-like wave of energy passed over the bricks with a ripple. Without hesitation the Tuner did a wheel kick, causing part of the wall to crumble down and the phantom abandoned its hiding place after being struck by Leon. The entity was difficult to see, it flew like a transparent veil that latched onto a new surface to make itself invisible to the Tuner.

When you have to ask yourself ‘when was the last time I slept more than an hour?’ you know you probably should go to sleep. At least that’s what Asher was told from his boss. Honestly, he can’t remember when he had gone to bed. Either he crash-napped for about thirty minutes in the on-call room, or he fell asleep at a sofa when he got home. In his defense, he has too many shits on his plate-- work, Noah, Luke, Dad, and then more work. There is no room for sleep. He probably should have made a room for it though. Crossing the street, he is so sleep-deprived that he doesn’t notice a car ambushing him on green light. It hits him in the leg and he stumbles. He doesn’t even register the pain, but just blankly stares at the driver flipping a bird and screaming and honking at him. “You kidding me? It’s a green light, jackass.” He sighs, gesturing at the traffic lights. He just wants to get the grocery and go home. The screaming continues, and as much as Asher would like to kick the car in bumper, but he would like to avoid getting in a trouble. “Yeah, whatever.” He groans and gets up on his feet. “You have a wonderful day too, dickhead.”

Valeria did her hair, shimmied into her dress, and slipped on her shoes all within an hour. All that even included makeup and choosing jewelry. She also carefully picked out everything she needed to slip into her clutch. She brushed back fly away strands of hair and looked into the mirror. Valeria hardly recognized herself as she examined her appearance. Even as a young college woman, she didn’t dedicate this much time to her appearance. College parties were very different when she was dressing up. Valeria put on a pair of earrings and sat and waited, going over her plan in her head.

When someone knocked on her door, Valeria stood up quickly and went to the door. Her heels click-clacked on the wooden floors as she walked. She picked up her dress a bit to avoid stepping on the bottom. It was a rather simple black dress with hints of gems across her waist and shoulder to accentuate her features. She opened the door to see Jacques standing there in a suit and tie. She gave him a small smile. “You clean up nicely, Monsieur Jaminet,” she said, calling him by his cover name. “Are you ready to go?”
