Credit to @sothebys This Fabergé gold-mounted cigarette case and timepiece were bought by the last Tsar and Tsarina as gifts for the parents of Louis Mountbatten, whose aunt was the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. Records show that the cigarette case was purchased jointly by the Russian royals from the St Petersburg branch of Fabergé on 12 February 1901 for 200 roubles, with each paying half, and the clock recorded as having been purchased by the Empress on 18 August 1897 for 200 roubles. They will be offered at auction on 24 March, as part of our sale of the family collection of Lord Mountbatten’s daughter Patricia. Credit to @sothebys Elephants never forget 🐘 Inscribed in Lord Mountbatten’s handwriting; ‘Edwina from Dickie’ and ‘18 July 1946’, these gold enamel elephants made in Jaipur were a gift from Lord Mountbatten to his wife Edwina commemorating their twenty-fourth wedding anniversary. Credit to @sothebysjewels Edwina Mountbatten had a particular penchant for Art Deco “Tutti Frutti” style jewels, which took inspiration from Indian cut-coloured gems, and so held a special resonance for the Countess, who had been the last Vicereine of India. Our auction of the collection of her daughter Patricia on 24 March offers an extraordinary group of Lady Mountbatten's jewels, with their profusion of multicoloured carved rubies, emeralds and sapphires. Pictured here is a 1930s jabot pin, which is remarkable for its inclusion of a carved sapphire bird, and a necklace designed as an extensive articulated wreath of carved emerald leaves.
