1998 Sottimano Barbaresco Currá. Burgers & Barbaresco (B&B) tonight and this #wine is drinking at absolute peak. Cherry, plum, thyme, eucalyptus and rose water on the palate. Beautiful nose and beautifully vibrant and alive. We had its sister wine last night (1998 Cotta) and that one was decidedly past peak and beginning to show less than ideal. And if you think it is barbaric to have a wine like this with burgers...try it. This beautiful red wine from Piemonte just arrived in our cellars. Made from a little know grape, with a particular aromatic style, brachetto is part of Piemonte's heritage and deserves be discovered. Pure and fine aromas of rose, violet and herbes. Another day, another Dolcetto

First wine of the year I've opened more than one bottle of, so that says something nice. Which is good, because I don't think I have anything else nice to say. You could admire the structure if tannic and hard is your ideal. It's just not at all not like the one tasted last week (and Vin Québec had the exact same experience). I stopped drinking this so I could return it. I'm no fool; I don't seek out and then spend $20 for a particular bottle to get stuck with a lemon. But when I went back to SAQ where I bought it, I am asked (for the first time ever) to produce a driver's license... As a requirement to return bad wine to a state agency! I guess I am to be taken for a fool after all.

I switched to this when the Dolcetto failed, which wasn't the wisest idea. The 2005 Badiola was outstanding wine value of year material, so here I was setting myself up for another disappointment delivered in the face of fond but unmatchable memories.
