Sneak peek for Chapter 19 of Soul Decay
It was sometime in the early morning, and he had already traversed almost the entirety of the base, just now beginning on his second circuit through the winding passageways. His pedes carried him past his quarters again, further down and to the right, until he came to a halt in front of the small room that served as the base’s library.
He stared at the door, his optics tracing the minuscule, shallow scrapes gouged into the smooth metal by many fingertips dragged across its surface. He raised his own servo, resting it against two of the numerous grooves–they fit his digits perfectly, although he couldn’t remember when exactly they had been made.
The door slid open.
It took his optics a moment to adjust to the almost pitch-black of the room, but when they did, he froze, his spark stuttering to a stop in his chest.
Standing among the dozens of stacks of books and datapads was a dark figure, its hulking mass seeming to draw in every ounce of light like a hungry void–a black hole eager to feast on whatever creature was unfortunate enough to wander into its cloying grasp. It stood with its back towards him, its armor littered with sharp edges and spikes, looming far above Prowl’s helm. It slowly turned to face him, its purple optics leering, and–
Optimus blinked in surprise, his blue optics (blue, of course they were blue) warm with concern.
“Prowl? Are you alright?”
Prowl shook himself, wiping what was most likely something bordering on terror from his face, replacing it with practiced disinterest.
“I’m fine. You startled me–I wasn’t expecting anyone to be in here,” Prowl replied evenly. He reached over and flipped a switch, weak fluorescent bulbs flickering on overhead, casting a sickly light over Optimus’s scarred frame. He was holding a datapad in his servos.
Prospective upload time for this chapter is still sometime in August, buttt I didn't want to sit on this piece until then so I'm putting it up now. Seeing as this is a snippet from probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire fic (thus far), I thought it was deserving of something special...
