There's a line of tape that splits the room in two, dividing it off into two halves to stop the emptiness from drowning him, swallowing him, consuming him. It's not that he's not used to empty rooms he went through enough as a child but knowing that here might last a little longer than the foster homes he was in has him overwhelmed. He's never been able to stay in one place too long, or at least that's what he's told himself to try combat the toll being bounced around from foster home to foster home took on his sense of self worth.

His half looks just as lived in as his other half, that is to say, not at all. All the time in the world has made Tommy a very neat person, as messy as his life is, his living space is tidy. His bed is made perfectly, his suitcase of clothes is packed, and carefully put away under his bed out of sight, and his clothes hamper has been placed there beside it. The only sign that this isn't an unused room is the three posters that hang on the wall, two group shots of x-men, the O5 and a newer team, and one of Colossus on his own, that looks like it probably came from a kids magazine at some point. They are neatly pinned in a row on the wall besides his bed, and kept in fairly good condition, given how turbulent his life has been  and the age of some of these posters. It's weird seeing teachers and classmates on his wall, but he doubts any of them will ever see them, and unlike his twin, he'd never ask for them to be signed.

On the back of these posters there are newspaper clippings that have been carefully taped there, most of them are old ones, about Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants, but there are others there too that aren't as old, (as if he'd gotten prints from old library records) that show stories of the Scarlet Witch, her marriage to The Vision, one of a birth announcement for Thomas Francis Shepherd with a photo of him as a newborn on it, and then there are the ones that are newer still, and cut from newspapers, one about the school he blew up, and several about the young avengers. Then finally, a picture of him as a little boy, the only photo of himself he'd managed to get from one of his old foster families. He looks happy, maybe four or five, missing his two front teeth, with a dark brown bowl cut that was still in motion as he turned to look at the camera.

To a trained eye, it would be clear to see that Tommy was ready to leave at a moments notice, his belongings still packed, no personal items out besides the posters, and even then the clippings that show his true thoughts are hidden away behind them, out of sight of anyone who should come to his room. He's uncomfortable here, but that's not a new feeling, nor is it a feeling he didn't expect, so the way he's reverted back to how he treated his foster homes is intentional, but still a hard change to readjust to once more.
