The Bird is the Word
So I just started working in a cute little local Street Ramen shop. First time I have ever done food service or resteraunt work. It is vastly different from anything I’ve ever done. I’m used to quiet work spaces, working with office equipments, doing data entry and hardware/software repair and the like(you get the idea). Well, I’ve been there for about 4 and ½ weeks now, and I had to get some answers about something I kept hearing that was TOTALLY confusing. So I was spending time with one of the shop managers, happens to be one of my best friends since we were 12. I figured it would be less embarrassing to ask her, since she is fully aware I am a noob in food service.
Me: Hey can I ask you something? It’s about the ramen shop.
R: Yea baby, what’s up?
M: So I’ve noticed something. I’ve noticed… Every time I speak out or relay a message or whatever, everyone always responds with ‘Bird’. Why is that?
R: Bird? Uhm, what?
Me: Yeah, like I’ll yell out 'Corner!’ Or 'hot broth!’ And just anything I say they respond with 'Bird’. I mean, I couldn’t figure out why… My final guess is that they are basically saying 'word’, you know like just affirming what I said…. But they are saying 'Bird’ because Bird is the Word.
R: *is laughing so hard right now* that’s hilarious!!! No honey, they’re saying 'heard’!
M: Are you fucking serious, I swear I’ve heard bird this whole time!!! God, I almost started saying 'Bird’ in affirmation, accepting is as some crazy ass restaraunt code word lingo @_@.
R: I love you, we’re gonna get everyone to say 'bird’ now xD!!!
