Students at Southeast by Southeast & Richard Allen Prep have completed painting all the panels for the Dennis McNett (@wolfbat) mural.  The name of the mural is “Limpia Limpia” Meaning clean, cleansing.  Installation will be held during the week and finished by this weekend.  Stay tuned!

Mural Arts Program at Southeast by Southeast welcomes new student Andrea.  She quickly picked up on embroidery and printmaking, creating some beautiful artwork.  The class has been adding layers to their spirit animal tunics by using  linocut symbols, embroidery and beading.  Cing’s symbol represents fire while Micah’s stands for bravery.

Students at Southeast by Southeast in the fall created spirit animals and constructed masks based off them.  Now we are putting that on hold to design symbols that reflect who our animals are.  Each student will create 4 symbols.  One symbolizing the animal itself and three of traits that define them.   We then carved out linocuts and did a test print of their first symbols .  Next we will use our symbols to make prints on our spirit animal’s mask and costume.

Students are very excited to be back in session at SEbySE! We warmed up by discussing and creating mythological creatures. We are in the process of designing characters based off our Wolfbat mask project. We also learned how symbols can be used in patterns to tell a story.

Thanks to our visiting artist Dennis McNett @wolfbatstudios for teaching our class his techniques in mask making.  We enjoyed connecting and reflecting over our animal choices.  Students developed new skills and had lots of fun creating these mask.  We will be finishing our mask after winter break and look forward to working again with Dennis in the Spring.

Visiting Artist Dennis McNett (Wolfbat) is instructing the class on how to create masks made from cardboard by using his techniques. Students had fun choosing an animal they felt connected to or that reflected their personalities for the design of their masks.  Some of the kids chose multiple animals to represent their masks by combining them.  We are at the last stage of our mask making process and will be posting our final pieces soon.  Stay tuned!

Students at RAPCS and Southeast by Southeast had fun learning more about contour, blind contour, and zoom lens drawing. We also talked about correct proportions of the head and face while working on self portraits.
