We had a nice visit to South River today in DeKalb County, where PATH has put a lovely walking/biking trail. We stood on shoals to enjoy the view, but quickly noticed that the water was thick and polluted.

According to a report last year from AmericanRivers.org, South River is one of the nation's most endangered:

"Originating from creeks and streams in Atlanta, the South River has been plagued by sewage pollution for decades. This pollution has choked the river and impacted the health and quality of life in nearby communities, perpetuating longstanding environmental injustice."

The Old School Baptist Church in South River, #NewJersey is a local history museum and headquarters of the South River Historical & Preservation Society. It was built in 1805 by a small congregation of Baptists. In the 1850s it was expanded to include a second floor and the portico. In 1922, it was sold to South River for its library and became the Borough Clerk's office in 1979. In the 1990s, the building was restored and repurposed to serve as a #museum.
