This is a long shot, but if you’ve ever considered marching drum corps-
Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps is a fantastic corps and we are looking for more mellophone and guard members!
You don’t think you’re good enough? You’re probably wrong. Personally, I’d been in guard for less than six months when I went to my first audition camp. The guard staff is incredible, and every single tech there is totally willing to give you helpful feedback and help you wherever you need it. From my hornline friends, I’ve heard that the brass staff is just as good. Nothing of what we do is impossible if you show them you’re willing to work on it. God knows I was a hot mess my first few camps, but they saw how much I had worked and improved and offered me a contract.
You’re scared and think you can’t do it? Well that’s just some straight up bullshit. Is it hard? Yes. Are you going to be pushed to your absolute limit? Absolutely. Are you going to come out of the camp feeling better (and more sore) than you have in years? Yes. That’s what drum corps is about. It’s not about being THE best, it’s about being YOUR best, no matter how good it is. You’re going to be pushed, but you’re going to come out better for it. I’ve only been to three camps and I’m already far better than I was when I came.
Too much money? Yeah, that’s reality. The good thing is that DCI has lots of scholarships, and you can get sponsorships from people! Unfortunately, if you’re coming in this late, you’ll have missed out on the fundraising opportunities, but that’s not the end of the world. We will do what we can to enable you to march. The good thing is, Southwind has tons of generous alumni who are more than willing to help financially!
You think this year isn’t right? Maybe it’s not. Maybe you do just have too much going on. There’s only one way to find out, though.
There’s only one way to find out if corps is for you- come try it! Southwind has our next camp in a week (June 7-9) in Robertsdale, Alabama! If you’re interested, please contact me and I can help get you set up with what you need! If you know you’re not doing drum corps for whatever reason, or, heck, maybe you don’t even know what it is, please reblog this! There are so many people who are just waiting to hear words like these, and if you all could help get the word out, I’d really appreciate it! Southwind has an awesome show lined up for the 2019 season, but it won’t come together if we don’t have the members we need, especially in Colorguard. Please, just take the leap. You’ll only come out of it better. I promise, it is a fantastic experience and you will not regret it. Thanks so much, everybody! Unfortunately, I can’t find a way to attatch the show reveal video to this post, but if you want to check it out, it’s on the official Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps Facebook page!

This tune is from “Train To Nowhere” by Southwind. Another collection shared by one of our friends. This one came out in the late 80′s.
