Some of my lovely Soviet postcard collection. Currently in the process of creating an Etsy to sell some of them. All the black and white ones featured here are from the 1950s!

My gift arrived! It doesn’t look like much, but this here is a genuine DKP-A Soviet personal dosimeter. Point the thing at a source of light and you can see the roentgens recorded through a lens at one end (and fuck me was that a hard photo to take). A bit of googling leads me to believe it needs to be reset/calibrated using some kind of central unit but obviously I can’t test it unless I like... dismantle a smoke detector or something. Still, how fucking cool is this?!

Anyone else remember back in 91 when Barq's Rootbeer started giving away crap they'd bought from the former Soviet Union? The ticket to the Soviet Space exhibit was not part of it, but I went with a group of other kids to see that. It was interesting and the first I'd learned about a lot of the Soviet space program.
