The MS-1 was an impressive achievement for the industry of the nascent Soviet state. Although not without inspiration from abroad, it was an original design, with nearly 1000 vehicles produced, an impressive achievement for any nation in the 1920s. The problem was that the tank was already considered obsolete by the end of the decade, with attempts to modernize the tank falling flat. Most ended up as buried bunkers on the frontier.
