Masha from soviet cartoon
Leonid Shvartsman ( Леони́д Шва́рцман) 30 August 1920 – 2 July 2022
-Princess Parvana
From "The Legend of Lake Parvana" / "Фարվանա"
directed by Valentin Podpomogov in 1970.
I discovered this short film only in 2025...how did I miss it all these years?;-; (well, better late than never!).
Maybe l'Il draw other Soviet or Armenian cartoons characters in another time.
Welp, hope you enjoy it! 💛
(I also added a warm/rosy filter underneath to evoke the filters of old cartoons ♥︎)
THE LEGENDARY SAGA OF THE BREMEN MUSICIANS - The Town Musicians Of Novgorod: Chapter 6 – Ashes and Oaths
Fleeing the burning tavern, the group faces their lowest point. Barbos is injured. Murka considers leaving. Osyo doubts their cause. But after Petya nearly dies protecting a child from soldiers, they reaffirm their pact. They are more than runaways—they are a voice for those who cannot sing. They write their anthem: “No Chains in Novgorod.”
EXT. BURNING TAVERN – NIGHT
The once-secret rebel tavern is now aflame, burning fiercely, the crackling of the fire a brutal symphony. Thick smoke rises into the night sky as the animals rush through the chaos, dodging falling beams and explosions, the heat scorching their fur. Barbos, wounded, is limping, but his eyes are full of fury, his teeth bared in a snarl.
BARBOS
(gritting teeth, clutching his side, blood seeping through his fur)
“Dammit... we can't let them win, you fucking cowards!”
MURKA
(staring at the inferno, her eyes wide with shock)
“We need to get out of here, now! Before we’re fucking roasted!”
Osyo turns and picks up Barbos, throwing the dog’s arm over his shoulder, his muscles straining with the effort.
OSYO
“Get to the trees. We'll find shelter. We can't fight this battle tonight, you fucking idiots.”
PETYA
(crowing defiantly, his voice rising above the crackling flames, his feathers ruffled with determination)
“Whoever set this fire will burn with the shame of it! We will rise, even from ashes, you sons of bitches!”
The animals flee into the woods, their silhouettes barely visible in the firelight as the rebel fighters scatter in all directions. Behind them, the tavern continues to burn, lighting the forest with an eerie glow, the crackling of the fire a brutal lullaby.
EXT. SAFE HAVEN – LATE NIGHT
The animals gather around a small fire, exhausted but resolute, the sounds of distant shouts and sirens echoing through the night, a chilling reminder of the pursuit. Here, in the quiet of the woods, they find brief respite, the fire casting long shadows on their weary faces.
OSYO
(determined, looking at the others, his eyes reflecting the firelight)
“We’ve lost one battle. But we’ll win the war. I’m sure of it, you fucking traitors.”
Barbos winces as he sits down, the wound on his side still bleeding, his breath ragged and painful.
BARBOS
“I’ve fought so many battles... but this one... this one is different. It’s for something more, something fucking sacred.”
PETYA
(flapping his wings fiercely, his eyes burning with conviction)
“Not just for us, but for everyone who’s ever been caged, you fucking oppressors.”
The animals nod in silent agreement as they gather close, their breaths visible in the cold night air. They prepare for the next stage of their journey, knowing the battle ahead will be the most dangerous yet, their hearts filled with a mix of fear and determination.
THE LEGENDARY SAGA OF THE BREMEN MUSICIANS - The Town Musicians Of Novgorod: Chapter 4 – Baba Yaga’s Test
Lost in the haunted woods, they are captured by Baba Yaga, who challenges them with riddles and illusions. Each animal must face a fear from their past. Osyo relives the whip, Barbos the fighting pit, Murka the dark tower, and Petya the sacrificial altar. They pass, earning Baba Yaga’s blessing and a talisman to shield their music from dark magic.
EXT. DARK FOREST – NIGHT
The animals wander deeper into the forest, their surroundings growing darker and more sinister, the trees twisted and gnarled. Suddenly, a cackling voice echoes through the trees, sending shivers down their spines.
BABA YAGA (V.O.)
“Lost little creatures... Do you think you can escape your fate, you little shits?”
The ground shakes, and a massive hut with chicken legs rises from the earth. Baba Yaga appears, her old, crooked face grinning, her eyes glinting with malice.
BABA YAGA
“Four wanderers with no destination. How amusing. You’ll play my game. Fail, and you’ll be mine, forever.”
One by one, Baba Yaga casts each of them into a vision. Osyo faces the whip. Barbos relives the bloodied pit. Murka faces her master’s tower. Petya stands before the altar once again, the chanting echoing in his mind.
BABA YAGA
(cackling)
“Prove you’re not weak. Prove you deserve freedom, you pathetic beasts.”
The animals fight back, each overcoming their vision, their fears—finally breaking free from the illusions, their screams of defiance echoing through the forest. Baba Yaga, impressed, smiles, her teeth yellow and rotted.
BABA YAGA
“You are strong. I grant you my blessing... and this talisman, to protect your music from the dark arts.”
She hands them an enchanted amulet, its surface cold and smooth. The animals bow respectfully and leave, their hearts pounding with a mix of fear and excitement.
