Nova dreams of exploring the stars. With the first expedition of Mars on the frontier, she must put aside her past to confront her future.

heartbeat for stella or kam

Hospitals were a scary place, no matter how old she got or who was with her. Last time she went up to one of these machines.....she was young. An adult, but newly so. Dr.Gallen had requested an MRI of Estela’s spine to see how much damage had really been done before the fusion. And now....sweeps later....here she was again.

Different trolls helped her along. She had to change out of her comfortable sweater and into a hospital gown. This time around, Cosmit and Honeay had come along. Louie waited out int he lobby. It wasn’t just her and Kam. She had others around her. Cosmit helped her tie the back of the gown, and Honeay stood by the door of the tiny hospital room. When she was all set, she nodded to the big cuspblood so she could call the nurses back inside.

Estela laid back down on the hospital bed and stuck out her arm. She made a grabby-hand motion to the other women, who both stepped forward. Cosmit let Honeay take her hand. Honeay was the stronger of the two, and while Estela wasn’t an heiress she did have her strength. Honeay didn’t show any pain when Estela squeezed her hand. She hated needles, she hated shots, she hated syringes. The nurse was able to get the IV in correctly the first time. That was a rarity for Stella. Next was the waiting.

Cosmit climbed into the bed with Estela, and Honeay stood beside her. The waiting took the longest. Estela never felt like anything was happening, all she noticed was her heartbeat. It felt so heavy and slow in her chest. She could feel Cosmit’s heartbeat, and Honeay’s through her hand. They were soothing.

Eventually, the nurse stepped back inside. She was a sweet oliveblood, she had really big ears. Estela almost wanted to comment on them. Cosmit left the bed, and the next part was blurry.

Estela closed her eyes as she was wheeled out of the roomm and through the hospital halls, into the dark room with the MRI machine. While she was sleepy, she still felt a twinge of panic. And then her heartbeat. And she remembered her matesprits’ heartbeats. And she thought about Louie, with his own heartbeat, waiting in the lounge for her to come out. She smiled slightly.

“What’re you gunna dream about?” The olive finally asked as she helped lay Estela down onto the bed of the machine.

“My quads.” Stella hummed softly, closing her eyes once more.

The last thing she remembered was her heartbeat. It was so loud, so heavy, so full of life. She dreamt of a movie night with all her quads, and Kam’s quads too.

She was woken up by her heartbeat. Loud, but not as heavy, banging in her chest. She thought about Cosmit’s, Honeay’s, and Louie’s heartbeats.

And she smiled.
