NASA’s New Horizons Mission successfully completed its second flyby of its journey through the Kuiper Belt (the first being Pluto in the summer of 2015). This time, its target was Ultima Thule, aka 2014 MU69. The flyby happened in the wee small hours of the morning here on the east coast, just after the new year rang in, but it wasn’t until just before noon that scientists received confirmation from the spacecraft, including the pixelated image above.

As promised I am highlighting the featured designers who have supported our BOOTHtique at AAS231 - the good news is, it has been an amazing success so far! The bad news is… well, I don’t see a down side! I guess we will run out of stock, but we will send would-be-customers directly to the designers to expand their startorial wardrobes even further!

Space Bling is a new designer at the BOOTHtique this year, even though we’ve been following Susanna’s unique designs since 2015. We are featuring gorgeous classic/vintage-style cuff links (pictured above), but there are also pendant necklaces and chokers featuring real planetary science images from robotic space missions in her @etsy shop!

Of course Susanna didn’t stop at Earth’s Moon in showcasing the beauty of the Solar System for her pace Bling @etsy shop!

These necklaces are Susanna‘s signature style, a pendant - either double-sided or backed with a vintage bakelite backgammon piece - on a chain or ribbon necklace, and many also available with both a chain and a complimentary vintage velvet millinery ribbon choker in your choice of several color & width combinations. The juxtaposition of vintage materials and state-of-the art space images from missions like Cassini is (literally) out-of-this-world steam punk! (I’m throwing in a pair of cuff links for good measure, and because Titan.)

We have been meaning to post these the gorgeous Pluto necklaces from Space Bling on @etsy since the shortly after the New Horizons fly-by last year, but as Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, we realized, what better way to celebrate than with a gift of Pluto’s heart-shaped Tombough Regio?! There are fantastic vintage details about the design pictured at top:

The JPL-sourced image is laser printed and adhered to a 30 millimeter backgammon chip with jeweler’s grade resin epoxy. Necklaces are available with and without glass cabochon domes. Ribbon chains are 1 inch wide vintage French 1940s millinery ribbon.
