Just finished: “If This Gets Out” by Sophie Gonzalez and Cale Dietrich

Rating: 4.75/5 stars

OMG that book was soooo good!!! I’m so glad I finally finished it! No spoilers bc I highly recommend this book, but ASDFGKHDNBSJS!

It managed to be a well developed book without overstaying its welcome which is impressive nowadays. I loved the analysis of the boyband model, the music industry, and censorship especially of queer existence. Oh, and I loved the queer joy, obvs.

The only reason this book really lost any points is bc I can’t think of how to write fanfic about it. The best idea I’ve got is to use it as an AU structure for another fandom.

Crossover Island quick note: even though my Mii-self is supposed to be aro ace, she will likely still get married which we will say is them entering a queer platonic relationship with extra paperwork.

Sooo I may or may not have started planning a Superhero AU continuation fic of If This Gets Out last night and I may or may not be looking for people to bounce ideas off of lol

I’ve figured out the premise and powers but I’m debating adding an oc who like brings the macguffin that gives them their powers (in part to have a girl in the story bc there aren’t many their age). This OC would be a lesbian ofc bc I’m writing it lol. She’d be some sort of alien or multi dimensional being the boys befriend after she crashes from the sky. Then they have to fight the evil aliens who are chasing the OC (the reason she ran away was to keep the Super Power Giver Thing out of their hands and it accidentally or intentionally bonded with the boys of Saturday) all while making their first album with the new management.

Just Picked Up: “How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days” by Jessie Sylva

What it’s about: a cozy fantasy romcom between a Halfling and a Goblin who both think they’ve inherited the same cottage. Forced Proximity and Enemies to Lovers.

Initial Impression: I’m excited for this one! A cozy queer fantasy rom com sounds light and fun. Exactly what I need right now.

Currently Reading: The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride

We finally actually started this book and have been loving it! We’re part way through Chapter 6 if we remember correctly and we are having so much fun. It’s such a light hearted and silly book with a wild set up that we did not see coming.

Ok so we were planning on sticking to our reading list…BUT we found a book that sounds really fun so we’ll be like live blogging this reading experience maybe. We might get sucked in and only post afterwards lol we’ll see. The book in question is “The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride” by Kristen Painter. Found it on kindle unlimited along with the 17 other books in the same setting by Painter. Happy reading!

We will try to stick to the books in our posted reading list until it’s time to make a new reading list. Hopefully this will make it easier to know what spoilers are coming up. That being said, we don’t tend to read the most hyped books simply bc most of them aren’t our kind of books. Still, no hard feelings if you still want to avoid some of our posts to avoid spoilers.
