I’m immensely glad that Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs hasn’t actually gone “extinct” despite a very prolonged silence. Orlando Higginbottom has finally returned with a new song after all those years as a favorite electronica, UKgarage, and indietronica artist of ours. The singer songwriter and producer surprises us with a toned down and melancholic sound on Leave A Light On. It’s a song that kicks off like James Blake, less like some of TEED’s earlier dance propulsive, quirky jaunting classics. But it’s a riveting and splendorous affair nonetheless, particularly once you’ve paced your way into its magnificent core, where it crescendos and blooms into a spacey spiraling, kaleidoscopic spinning polyphonic dazzler, on which TEED waxes heartfelt and wistful. Leave A Light On is a song that folds you deep into its world, an utterly intoxicating opus that TEED has released independently. I’m hoping it means much more TEED is coming our way.
