In ME2 before Tali joins the crew it's just Gabby and Kenneth down in engineering, which is weird. What if there was already Chief engineer, a Cerberus appointed one who wasn't big on the whole "aliens on the ship" thing and pushed back at Tali coming aboard when Shepard shows her the new drive core.

Cue a tirade about humanity and Cerberus values blah blah, and finally the CHENG refusing to continue working if doing so alongside an alien. Shepard nods, places a hand in Tali's shoulder and has EDI relieve the CHENG on the spot, before giving their position to Tali.

"You can pack your bags. Next time we make port you are off my ship."

Can we also talk about the spacism of Rey saying “What are those things???” about the space nuns, and the terrible writing of Luke not correcting her?

I know there’s a dozen more down-to-earth things to be offended at in the film, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the word “thing” thrown around in Star Wars--the most memorable being when an Imperial officer calmly asks “Where are you taking this...thing?” about Chewbacca. It’s a good line that throws out spacism and contempt and encapsulates the evil of the Empire.

Also, it would have been nice for Luke to give some names and a species identifier, and not just exposition. Or for, you know, one of the Space Nuns to actually be a character? Because, once again, aliens are left to be foreign objects to be marveled at--they’re creatures in a zoo.
