OOPS MY HAND SLIPPED
I love She-Ra and it was done beautifully, great story telling. The Crewra did a great job of telling a complex and multifascited story but I am also rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender and noticing some story telling aspects that could have flown well in She-Ra
For one, I think that the dynamics once Catra is introduced into the good-guys/ when she is saving Glimmer that the dynamic between them could have faired well like the dynamic between Zuko and Katara. He hurt her and she was skeptical even after he is kind or does good. Catra is responsible for taking Glimmer’s mother away from her by pulling the lever ( or the cliche of pulling the trigger) and I think that Glimmer would hold that against her. Even though she does not want to see Catra die, like at the end of “Save the Cat” where she cries with Catra’s head on her lap; but she could still be upset, resentful, or angry. I think it would have been interesting and more... idk... in depth/ faciliate a more complete-feeling group if Glimmer and Catra had a or a few isolated incidents where we can see this tension then one where it is resolved because it, like Zuko in “The Southern Raiders”, brings the past antagonist into redemption more by proving it and working to right themselves.
Also, Catra and Scorpia... we really REALLLYYY see them and their duality for like 2 full seasons but we never get to see how they respond to being on the same side on the opposite end of the war. We get that hug at the end which is still ahhhhh *cries* but I think an apology is in absolute order for being so mean and in an apology reflects on why she was so awful and what hurt her. This would also open Catra more to the audience as more characters see her similarly to how Adora sees her, as in what troubles her heart and mind.
Also Glimmer taking some damn charge up in this b*tch. Glimmers season 4 angst fest was wild and she could have really been shown stepping up to the plate this season. She was kinda side-swept after she was rescued and it was a disservice to her character (amongst a few in the past for the sake of plot). Similarly to how we see Katara really step out into her own and take the reins ( although Katara is not Glimmer, I am not saying that. I am only comparing how Glimmer could have stepped up into her full power)
No show will ever be another Avatar, that show was a one in a BILLION, we can all agree. But She-Ra could have tightenned up its storytelling frame a bit more here and there to flesh out the world and characters just that much more. However, I’m not complaining or unhappy, this show is touching and wonderful in its own right. It should be appreciated and cherished for what the Crewra ( because they areeee the showeww) gave and made with their all. It is a beautiful story that I only wish we could have gotten more freedom with because of the main relationships intense dynamics. ( and let’s be real if Catra was a boy Netflix would have given freeeee reinnn to do whatevee the F they wanted romantically and building tension likeeeeee???!!!!!) and that kinda sucks. It really does that there were restraints put on the story and development because of sexual orientation.. not a first time and not a last and I’m miffed.
This is only a compilation of a few of my thoughts, and they are half-baked at best... But eh. What do you think? What is your opinion? What could have been done differently or elaborated upon?
