i like when she’s selfish. i like when she’s an enabler. i like when she’s complicit in order to keep herself comfortable.

i do find her position in the coven very interesting. if we’re looking at it as a fucked up mirror of nuclear family dynamics (which. i’m never Not looking at it like that) then she’s in the position of youngest child. beloved by both parents, beloved by her sibling, but considered weaker both in mind and body. vampirism gives you many physical benefits, it increases your power, and it kind of. well for lack of a better way of putting it aligns you with authority and general social power. side note, vampirism is interesting bc it can easily represent both the bottom and the top of the social ladder. hm. maybe vampirism is an extremifier of sorts. i’ll have to get back to that.

anyway. this social/physical power gained from vampirism is in direct contrast to the lack of power of being a child. which i find very awesome!! but in some ways, shelby does like being in that role. she’s searching for proof of werewolves in order to redeem her father, and it’s very likely that his disappearance shattered the (illusion) of a normal family. the coven is a kind of replacement. it’s a play-family where everything can be nice and happy and how it was supposed to be. and i really like it when that desire of hers causes her to hurt people!!!

i could uhhhh ramble a lot more. and i might later? unsure. no guarantees. but i like the various contradictions in shelby’s character <3 and how they resonate with each other in a way. kind of like a complementary color scheme.

Hi sparrow! Thanks for the ask ☆ ^^

My username, you say? Well, I first used it on Discord after I'd outgrown my old one(which was based on characters in a fandom I'm no longer active in). It was frustrating to find a username that fit or 'clicked', but then I just typed "prismic_nexus" and it seemed to instantly settle the incessant discontent I'd been feeling.

As for the meaning:

A Prism, metaphorically, is used to refer to the clarification or distortion afforded by a particular viewpoint.

A Nexus is a connection or link between things, persons, or events, especially that is or is part of a chain of causation.

[Merriam-Webster Definition]

So, prismic nexus, according to these definitions and my own interpretation, is the connection(unseen or not) between everyone's perspective, mental tangent, and line of thought that lead to another. How one's mindset affects another's; how the feedback in turn affects the first; how a peek into one's perspective changes another's; how one's experience affects the mindset and how that mindset shows or hides itself and how that again affects others; how their worldview affects how one's mind forges a tangent of thought and so on with the complexities of the mind.

It's ultimately you who chooses what to think when looking through the prism of another's mind.
