I'm sorry if this bothers you, but... My grandfather recently died, and i honestly don't feel sad at all. Like, i'm actually really angry at him and glad he's dead. He sexually abused my older sibling, and it disgusts me, so I feel no remorse. But my mother, Uncle, and grandmother are all broken up, and everyone is saying it's okay for me to cry and that they're proud of me for being strong for everyone else. if your friend confides in you or opens up to you about a problem they're having, the first words out of your mouth should not be "you should just (do this)" or "you should have just (done that)"

listen to your friend. they want their voice to be heard and their feelings to be validated. do not try to "fix" them. ask if they want advice before you offer it to them, because chances are they are already overwhelmed by the situation and adding your input only weighs them down even more.
