Domestic violence doesn’t fall into the category of “one size fits all.” Not everyone that has experienced trauma suffers from ptsd or other disorders. When you have tunnel vision, it can take away from those who don’t fit into your category of “one size fits all.” I encourage anyone that is working with victims and survivors of domestic violence or other related field to expand your horizons and listen to understand rather than just trying to be understood. 💜 If you don’t agree with comparing DV and substance abuse disorders, that is ok... Again, it’s not a “one size fits all” and what works for you may not work for everyone and vice-versa. What worked 30 years ago may just not be what is working 30 years later. The generations have changed, technology has changed, research has changed, opportunities have changed, so much has changed. If nothing changes, nothing changes, that goes for the approach with helping victims and survivors as well. It’s no different than when you are working in any other aspect of the field. For example.... some people go to AA and use that as their foundation to maintain recovery, others go into residential treatment... some people go to support groups for mental health, others go into psychiatric hospitals, some people go to long term facilities for trauma care and eating disorders, others go to outpatient centers. Some people have co-occurring disorders while others don’t. Some people do well with medication, others use more holistic approaches. Some people go to therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, while others find peer support and life coaching. ❤️💜Take what you can and leave the rest. 💜❤️ #domesticviolenceadvocate #changeagent #domesticviolence #speakupspeaknow #mentalhealth #youarenotalone #stoprevictimization #growth #support #purpose #love #bethechangeyouwanttosee #hatorade #sorrynotsorry #enoughisenough #stopshaming (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHS4tn4gTKU/?igshid=1rmvnevgwoovi
