Hi there! *waves* MASH is the best! Years ago I remember channel flicking on telly and coming across an anniversary interview (might've been the 30th anniversary or so but I'm not sure) with the entire cast of the show. It was awesome and I want to see it again, but I haven't come across it anywhere. Any ideas where to find it? Thanks.:)

Hey! Unfortunately I’ve never been able to find any link to watch the 30th Anniversary Reunion online, but I will keep searching for you. If anyone knows of any links for this it would be greatly appreciated.

Alternatively I have the special on the special features of my DVDs, if there was a way to rip it from the DVDs and upload it somewhere I could do that? That is if someone a bit more techy than me could tell me how haha?

Also I came across a website that talks about a special that aired a couple of years ago that had interviews from the cast. The website claims to have the full interview in a video but doesn’t load for me. I’m not sure if it’s just my computer or if the video isn’t available any more, but even so they provide some pictures from the interview and some of the transcript.

Family history was my big obsession for about a decade (initially in response to a very close bereavement which happened to coincide with the period when UK records like the 1901 Census were being put online for the first time).

One reaction to the bereavement was to make me also (re-)mourn a earlier loss decades earlier. There are mysteries in my family, and I became intensely curious about all the questions there was no one to ask about, and sort of wallowed in online records for years... The social-history, classed, and gendered side of family history is of especially great interest to me – and all the untold stories that the records don’t quite answer. I doubt I’ll ever have answers to my main questions, but the process has shifted my perceptions in so many ways.

One of the great things about WDYTTA is that we see others going through all the emotions and insights of that journey ... and also a storytelling process, because ultimately we all have to make constructive sense of what we discover. I’m really looking forward to Mark’s journey for all these reasons!

Hey archadiaego. :) Great to see those Castle Howard posts! I went there in 2010 and I remember seeing the information panels upstairs about the filming of Brideshead. Have you seen both the movie and the Jeremy Irons miniseries? How do they compare, in your opinion?

Hi! I’ve visited Castle Howard three times since 2003; the information regarding Brideshead is much better than it was, in fact everything is better organised in general, so I think maybe they had some new interest after the movie. I have seen both the film and the miniseries, and read the book. I read the book first; watched the miniseries originally in 2002. The miniseries is pretty much one of the most important inspirations of my life, and I wrote my dissertation on Evelyn Waugh so I maybe tend to be somewhat more judgemental than others might be. I’m afraid I’m not really a fan of the movie at all. I think Ben Whishaw was really well cast, but the movie just gets so much very very wrong, sometimes to the point of being offensive. I understand that a film has a lot less time to tell a story than a book or a 12 hour miniseries but turning the relationships into some sort of love triangle (except not really because it’s made clear that Sebastian’s feelings are one sided) is just missing the point so drastically, and the religion is handled very badly as well. I don’t think people have to agree with Waugh but if you’re going to make a film of one of his books and not engage with Catholicism properly there’s really no point. (This also goes for Greene and the most recent Brighton Rock adaptation.)

HOWEVER, that’s just my opinion - and I like many films that deviate wildly from the source material. In this case I can’t be objective in any way, but I don’t care if other people like it or get something out of it. I just hope they give the book or series a try as well.
