We announced we were going to begin focusing on Yo-kai Academy Y starting in May, and the release of Episode 2 is the first of the sixteen releases we plan to make over the next few months. Episode 2 is titled “The Melancholy of the Salaryman Giant Miyazawa”, which is a reference to the light novel “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”. There’s not much relation between the plot of this episode and that novel, although the YSP Club’s ulterior goal is strikingly similar to the SOS Brigade. This episode has a few small references to the movie, so if you’re sensitive to spoilers and would rather wait and see the movie first, then hold off until we release our subs for the movie in July. We test our episodes using several different video players on the latest versions of both Windows and macOS platforms to ensure compatibility. In our tests for Episode 2, we encountered some problems with our softsub release running through VLC Media Player on macOS Catalina. Specifically, the player is known to freeze at both the 5:05 and 6:05 timestamp. This is not a problem with the subtitles themselves and is likely a problem with the macOS version of VLC. For optimal viewing, we recommend either using a different media player like mpv, or downloading the hardsub release and watching it that way. We did not encounter these problems when watching our softsub release through VLC on Windows 10. The translation for my first batch of episodes is complete, and is planned for release throughout the month of June.
