Why is Thomas Ricoletti a little surprised to see his wife dressed in her old wedding gown? Because, just a few hours before, she took her own life... Mrs Ricoletti's ghost now appears to be prowling the streets with an unslakeable thirst for revenge. From fog-shrouded Limehouse to the bowels of a ruined church, Holmes, Watson and their friends must use all their cunning to combat an enemy seemingly from beyond the grave and the final, shocking truth about...the Abominable Bride!
(source)
Possibly then, Thomas was the one asking “Why are you doing this?”
Old wedding gown? If she took her life just hours before in the said gown (it is the same one, right?) Seems a bit odd to call it old.
Also love the wording “seemingly from beyond the grave”!

“The 90-minute episode literally takes place hundreds of years ago.”

It looks like John will be taking notes? He is...right handed in the bygone era? (I know this isn't a scene, it's just a whatever goes on before, so he might just be holding it this way.)
Hi again
and thank you for your kind words. I have no tumblr account so I’m just an anonymous. Usually I’m completely satisfied with reading, watching and listening. There are so many metas, stories, pictures, artwork …. to enjoy. Surely I‘ will never get to the bottom of it. Never thought I could something contribute myself to this massive heap of theories, analyzes and speculations. Everything that came to my mind was already out there (probably this too) But when I couldn’t find anything about this magician/illusion thing I desided to make contact with one of you. I like your blog. So, here I am.
By the way - the latest setlock pictures were great. My favorite is definitely the one with John and Sherlock in the coach. Then „Heimish“ – „The ideal man“ oh, I love this. And „Shades of grey“ , OMG. What a shame we have to wait so long for the next show. But you setlockers are brilliant people. You make the waiting a pleasure. Please keep going!
Now, there is something else and I’m realy excited about it. I googled „Smiths ghost illusions“ from the London fair flyer and found maybe something interesting:
… combined ghost projection onto smoke with a technique borrowed from the Invisible Girl Illusion, which was one oft he most celebrated attractions of the early nineteenth century. Pepper Ghost was another example of a ghost illusion using screens, angeld mirrors and actors. …
I wonder what we will get in this Episode? More about this ghost stuff at: https://books.google.at/books?id=ifbFBQAAQBAJ&pg=PT55&lpg=PT55&dq=smith+ghost+illusions&source=bl&ots=Zf-FhIEaah&sig=cuTV1SorFiEaE1Aff60G44t5vdg&hl=de&sa=X&ei=jwHQVM-aFMP0UKa5hPAP&ved=0CE0Q6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=smith%20ghost%20illusions&f=false
Paranormal Media: Audiences, Spirits and Magic in Popular …
Of course now I got realy curious and tried to find ‚Mr. Parker‘ the guy from the yellow flyer. Just look what I found!
„Mark Parker is one of the UK’s leading designers of new illusions, creating ideas that make without doubt, brain blowing illusions, giving us the WOW factor again and again.“
Doesn’t this fit nicely? More comments about Parker at: http://www.illusion-designer.com/comments.html
stage illusion, illusion design, magic consultant, special …
And then because I was already at it I googled Fantoccini figurines (just the dictionary):
Fantoccini figurines are marionettes, thats: … a type of puppet with strings controlled by a puppeteer called a manipulator from above. It is believed that the term marionette emerged around 1600. It is a word connected with the Virgin Mary, hence the word ‘marionette’ or 'Mary doll'.
Nice again, don’t you think? More about those puppets at:

Yesterday I talked about my thoughts concerning magicians, illusionists and magic tricks in BBC Sherlock. Today I consider this thoughts may indeed be a real theory. There are definitely too many magicians in one show to be a coincidence (and we all know what Mycroft thinks about that). FredVan Buren, Derren Brown, Mark Parker and all the hints to victorian illusionists! There has to be something!
„The case of the gathering magicians“ – wouldn’t that be a nice name for this theory? If you think my ramblings aren’t a complete nonsense I wouldn’t mind if you spread the word. There are so many brilliant people out there who can research and deduce and combine much better than me. Maybe something else turns up – who knows? And wouldn’t that be great? Keep setlocking!
Thanks for listenning, vero
Thanks again, Veronika, for sharing your theory! This is great! I especially like the 'ghost projection on smoke' part. Usually, when there are names mentioned on props, first I wonder if they're one of the crew members. So this Mr Parker could be Mike Parker who's the property master on Sherlock. But combined with our rest of the theory, he very well could be based on the illusion designer!
Casting news thanks to Ruther2 on twitter.
Delroy Atkinson plays driver, and has done a rather dramatic scene according to his own twitter! Reminds me of this from the Queen Square, Bristol filming:

Looks like one of the scenes from yesterday was the other side of the scene with the bride shooting from balcony.
From The Case of Identity.
What if, instead of flying over in a given time, they're hovering over different events?
Hello. First of all, thank you for your wonderful blog. I enjoy it very much. There are some thoughts swirling in my head I would like to ask your opinion of. It’s about the fall, magic tricks, Sherlock BBC and canon ACD.
Sherlock in TRF: It’s a trick … just a magic trick!
Watson in ACD The empty house: … tell me how you came alive out of that dreadful chasm.
Holmes: … I was never in it.
Mary in TEH: You died. You jumped off a roof.
Sherlock: No.
Facts:
The VanBuren supernova (TGG) never existed.
Fred VanBuren is a magician famous for his illusion of the vanishing motorbike including the rider within a circle of onlookers.
Illulsionist and magicioan Derren Brown is an acquaintance of the Sherlock creators.
A lot of magic indeed! Just coincidence? And what a perfect solution to the FALL. Nobody would ask a magician to reveal his trick.
ShSpesH: Since I saw a picture of this flyer about the London fair and the announcement of „Smiths ghost illusions“ (in flaming red!) my thougts wont stop swirling.
What do you think? Could it be possible SH never jumped at all? Was it a magic trick? I never read about this combination of thougts so …. maybe I’m just crazy. Your opinion would be highly appreciated.
Thank you and best wishes, vero.
Thanks for sharing your theory! The thing is, back before TEH aired, I had thought similarly for a while, that Sherlock never jumped. Precisely because of canon parallels that you talk about. And in Occam’s razor kind of way, it would have been neat. But in quite a few interviews, Benedict said that it was indeed him jumping in TRF, and then many scenes of Fall that were filmed did include him. So I abandoned that. I wish there was a more coherent explanation! But…I don’t have any hope for it tbh.
As for the “Smith’s Ghost Illusions”, could it be more relevant to Moriarty’s “Miss me?” broadcast? I mean, of course, there is/was a fair and so there was some entertainment, but if we do consider it as a small clue, my mind jumps to Moriarty’s ghostly reappearance.
Having said that, I have been saying that if this episode is going to explain Moriarty’s alleged comeback, then Sherlock will have to revisit the Fall in his head to figure out what he missed. Maybe mayyyybe we might actually get a meaningful Fall solution then!
