poor woman was put in a bit of a crisis when her boyfriend impregnated her and left- unprepared and financially struggling. so her newlywed friend daniel schwartz (and his pretentious, hyper-critical husband, with whom peggy did not get along totally well) flew back from new york and they settled to adopt her kid because they wanted a child anyway. 

and boy are they excited about that child...not so much peggy. theyre happy to provide her with lots of resources on self care for pregnant woman but rlly she just wants to sleep and eat

and of course that child grows up into a lovely talented activist who takes a trip to missouri to tell her birth mom about all her accomplishments!
