Ain’t nothing but a goal digger
To bring in the New Year I am embracing the year of me.
Let's be honest, last year was a pretty horrendous year for a lot of people, myself included. But, despite all the heartache and drama there were some bright moments. 2017 is a year for focusing on my goals and my main focus is on being happy and doing things that make me happy, like exercise, and healthy eating, and all of the travelling.
Now ideally winning $10,000,000 would make me happy, however this doesn’t seem all that realistic, and since I am a single female on a relatively modest income who lives alone, and as the bulk of any income earned goes predominantly towards living costs, my current available funds are being hoarded for the holidays I've booked this year. It should also be noted that I have a weakness for expensive things.
My brother lives in NYC, and since I have booked a three week adventure there towards the end of this year to visit him, my plan was to not spend money on anything other than necessities until I saw him and then blow it all in NYC.
However, plans have changed. NYC seemed so far away and since I worked the whole year last year without breaks, the bestie and I are hitting up Bali at the end of next month for some well deserved R&R (she is technically then spending the following 3-4 months travelling and I am insanely jealous). So funds have been diverted from the NYC savings goal towards Bali where I am hopefully also going to finally learn how to surf.
We also decided we wanted to go to Book of Mormon which has finally come to Australia, so I am flying back to Melbs for a weekend at the end of this month to go see it with her. Our seats were one of the last few left and in a fantastic location but not cheap.
Plus, I have a wedding to go back to in July now which has prompted my searching for either a) the perfect shoes to go with a dress I currently have and love, or b) a new dress to wear.
Both have led me into the dangerous territory of stores, I am currently now lusting after these shoes:
I have been toying with the idea of getting a two bedroom place and subletting the second bedroom out to conserve funds but haven’t done much to actually move towards this yet. Especially since I just converted a lot of my available cash over to USD since the dollar is decent at the moment and now don't have the available funds to move if I did find something...
Instead, I am hoping that if I put my wishlist up of the things I want, it may actually prevent me from arbitrarily spending my money on them. Or you know, maybe ala the secret they will just suddenly manifest in my life in some way?
In terms of my other goals I have been awesome at sticking to the exercise portion of my BBG program and less awesome with the food. Still, two weeks in and I am feeling pretty good about myself. Today is arms and abs day (which I haven’t yet done) but I can already feel myself getting stronger and healthier. Now I just need to work on the food side of things, always a challenge when you’re starting to date someone.
I have read three books so far this year. My goal is to hit 50 by the end of the year since I feel like I've done a lot of mind numbing TV watching rather than my one true love (reading).
My other goals are a touch sidelined. I mean, I am technically being more mindful about money but that hasn't stopped me from spending big lately. I am currently trying to work on finding a side hustle which gives me some additional fulfilment that I may not get from my 9-5 (ok really 9-7 lately) job. I haven't written anything in ages so I feel like this is a beginning.
If anyone should read this feel free to weigh in on whether you think flutter sleeves or spaghetti straps.
