Been filling some boxes with steelhead swing flies for the spey rods.
Terminal offering for the long pull on swing.
I’ve discovered that I long for the days of simpler times, tying traditional patterns but adding my own twist on them. Decided to tie a Hairwing Royal Coachman as a spey fly for the local early fall steelhead run.
Have to say that I like the looks of it although this was my first attempt and I’m sure I could improve on the spey hackle part.
Fished it on an overcast drizzly evening on the lower McKenzie River and still no love from The Fish of A Thousand Casts.
Hope my recent tying sessions have produced enough options to encounter my first steelhead
Am I ready to have my first encounter with a steelhead? #speyfishing, #spey fishing, #steelhead
The second installment of our Fall steelhead trip. I can't get this trip out of my head. I want to go chase winter chromers right now!
