Happy Halloween!🎃🍬
This time of year used to be your favorite, but working tirelessly through the years, you have had to prioritize your time better. The special effects makeup collection you accrued has been boxed up in your closet for who knows how long. You have invested so much time, effort, and money into it. Opening it up brings back the memories and love you have for the spooky season. You can practically feel liquid latex and tissue stuck to your fingers accompanied by the strong scent of the latex and isopropyl alcohol for your paints.
You have only revisited this box now because Mina wants to enter a costume contest at a local bar. She remembers being surprised by your work every Halloween while she was a teenager. Since you don’t dress up anymore, she begged you to at least do her makeup. You know she is proud of you and wants your talent to be recognized by more than just her and your former friends. But it kind of feels like you have lost that spark of enjoyment for special effects makeup. Or maybe you have just convinced yourself there is no reason to pursue that hobby.
After hours of working on Mina’s zombie makeup, your nose feels like it has been stained with the smell of ammonia from the liquid latex. But something breaks through it. Something ambery, musky, and earthy. You know exactly where the scent is coming from: the unfairly handsome man encroaching on your personal space because of the crowd inside the bar. As if he senses your gaze on him, San looks to you and subtly grins when your eyes dart away.
Of course, he came dressed as a sexy vampire. You expect nothing less. As for you, you show up in all black. All your effort went into Mina’s costume; you barely cared enough to throw on a Halloween-themed graphic tee.
Your eyes jump around your group of friends. Kyungmi is dressed as a seductive police officer. Yunho is himself plus pink cat ears because he was told he has to dress up to get into the bar, which was a lie. Mingi, with his newly dyed red hair, dressed up as Chucky with temporary tattoos of scars and stitches on his face. Unfortunately, due to Halloween landing on a weekday, not all of your friends could make it.
While Mina goes to sign up for the contest and drags Mingi along with her because she doesn’t want to go alone, you, Kyungmi, Yunho, and San find two small tables to hang out at for the night. Although this is just a bar, the music is lively and full of spooky remixes of songs. Lighting around the place is changed for festivities. A fog machine puffs out a little bit of fog across the bar counter.
When Yunho excuses himself to the restroom, Kyungmi zeroes in on you.
“You did really good on Mina. If she doesn’t win, it’s rigged.”
San’s head snaps in your direction, his attention no longer on the free chocolate candy given with your drinks.
“You did her makeup?” He asks in surprise.
You hum in affirmation.
“Since when could you do all that?”
With your phone out, you scroll for what feels like five minutes to find all the photos of your old Halloween costumes. You show him your demon makeup with prosthetic horns coming out of your forehead, your zombie nurse complete with a full-cover mouth prosthetic, and your killer clown with a monster-teeth mouthpiece you made yourself from moldable thermoplastic. He is in awe with every picture you show him.
“Had I known you were that good, I would have asked you to do mine too,” he exclaims, smiling.
“I mean, I brought a little container of fake blood.”
His eyes light up. “Really?”
“You want some?”
He enthusiastically nods with almost childlike innocence, “Maybe, like, some on my cheek and some dripping from my mouth.”
You quickly produce the container from your purse, unscrew the top, and use the little brush attached to the lid to dab fake blood on his cheek gently. Your hand hesitates moving to his lips, and he doesn’t miss that. A smirk hints at the corners of his mouth as you even more delicately blot blood on his face.
“That good?” You ask, retracting your hand.
He pulls up the camera app on his phone and switches to selfie mode. As he inspects your work, you admire his side profile. His cheekbones and jaw must have been sculpted by gods. It takes everything in you to not reach out and trace his features with your fingertips.
He peers up at you through his moussed strands of hair. Those red-colored contacts are doing something to you. Maybe it’s just the idea of him being an actual alluring vampire that has you under his spell.
“All we need is some mistletoe,” he comments, making you realize how close you have leaned into him.
“Wrong holiday,” Kyungmi interrupts as she bops to the loud music by herself.
“Spooky mistletoe.”
The red lipstick he’s wearing is almost irresistible, and when he smirks with his fangs peeking out, you want him to sink them into your neck. Your mind descends into the imagination of him being a real vampire again. He would get you comfortable with sweet talk and soft kisses before finding the perfect spot to bite your neck. You would become immortal, and he would be all you have in this world until the end of time.
However, something ruins your immersion.
“You have chocolate on your lip,” you point out as if he is an annoying child.
He immediately challenges you, “Lick it off.”
“Don’t mind if I do,” Kyungmi leans between you with her lips puckered obnoxiously at him.
He bursts with laughter and focuses back on Yunho who has just come back to your table from the bathroom.
Kyungmi turns to you with a grin, “I’m a professional cock-blocker. You’re welcome.”

“It’s been so long!” Your best friends squealed while she hugged you tightly. “I really started to miss those good old days.”
You chuckled lightly, hugging her back quickly. “You are exaggerating as usual. We saw each other last week.”
“Yeah, for brunch.” She rolled her eyes, as if you weren’t getting her point. “This is different! We are finally on a night out again! We haven’t done this in so long!”
It was true that you haven’t been out with just your friends for a while now, most of the nights you had met, your significant others tagged along. Additionally most of the nights were more like evenings at a restaurant.
You haven’t seen a bar from the inside in months. You glanced up at the little neon sign over the entrance, feeling slightly nervous to enter a bar again.
As soon as the rest of your friends arrived your best friend grabbed your arm and dragged you inside, immediately walking up to the large bar in the middle of the room. Without even asking, she ordered a round of drinks for all of you, handing them to each of your friends and you. “Cheers!” She saluted, lifting her glass into the air enthusiastically.
You winced slightly upon seeing how drops of her drink splashed to the ground. Still, you enjoyed her enthusiasm and lifted your glass as well - a little more careful but nonetheless high above your head.
While your friend ordered one round of drinks after the other, you took the chance to look around.
The bar was packed, all tables occupied by groups or pairs, people sat on each other's laps or leaned against a wall near the table where their friends sat. Every now and then one of the group would stand up and get a new round of drinks or they actually waited for the waitress to come by.
The poor waitress rushed from one table to the next, every time she spoke with a customer a smile was plastered on her lips.
For a moment you wondered why she was alone when there were so many people around but you found your answer quickly as soon as you turned back to the bar, seeing the other waitress helping the bartender to fulfil all orders as quickly as possible.
You felt slightly sorry for them, especially when your best friend screamed for another round. “Hey, let’s take it slow, okay? Or do you want to be wasted within the next twenty minutes? I had hoped to stay a little longer than that!” You joked, placing a hand on her upper arm and pulling her away from the bar into a quieter corner of the room. The others followed you with a nod in agreement, feeling almost relieved to have a little break from drinking one shot after the other.
“If we have to,” your friend mumbled, already occupied with something else in her mind. Her body swayed from side to side while she closed her eyes.
You worried she might have already overdone it, when she nearly screamed how much she loved the song that was currently playing. Over the loud chatter you hadn’t noticed music playing in the background and you still had to concentrate a lot to actually identify the song she was talking about.
“It’s a good one,” you agreed, smiling when she grabbed your hands and swung them from side to side.
“I am so happy we are finally having a night out again,” she told you, hugging you once more. “I rarely see you.”
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t hold back the grin. “You do know that you’re always welcome to visit us?”
She nodded vigorously. “But that is not the same! I want you for myself! If I visit, I have to share you with Jinyoung!”
You laughed loudly, throwing your head back and holding your stomach. You never thought she would say something like that. “Oh come on! Jinyoung isn’t bad!”
“Of course he isn’t! But one smile of his and I have to fight for your attention!”
“It’s not that bad.”
She shrugged with her shoulders and stepped next to you, leaning against the wall behind her. Silently she let her eyes wander around the room until they stopped at one corner and a sly smirk appeared on her face. “Ooohh, you see that cutie over there?”
You followed her gaze and saw a group of men, though you couldn’t pinpoint which one she meant. “Which one?”
“Oh, come on! There is clearly just one cutie!”
You missed her teasing tone, staring intently towards the group of men. “You do know that I am near-sighted, right? From this distance they all look hot to me!” You grumbled and squinted your eyes, trying to make out any details.
“Oh, whatever! Let’s go over there!” She exclaimed, grabbed your hand and dragged you across the room.
Panicked, you tried to free yourself. “Wait, wait! What are you doing? I do have a boyfriend! I don’t need another one!” You protested with a loud whisper. “Or are you needing me as some sort of wingman? Could you please tell me what you are thinking?”
She ignored your pleading completely and only stopped in front of the group of guys. “Hey peeps!” She greeted them with a bright smile.
You wished to vanish into thin air, not daring to look at their reaction to see a random girl basically running up to them.
“Are you visiting this bar frequently?”
Your head shot up as soon as one of them asked this question. Your gaze wandered along the faces of the men until your eyes connected with the one who asked that question.
While you stared at him in confusion your friend answered him. “Sadly no. It’s pretty rare that we get the chance to go out.”
“Really? How tragic,” he answered without breaking eye contact with you. A smirk appeared on his lips and a mischievous glint shone within his eyes. “Strangely enough you feel somewhat familiar.”
You blinked rapidly, still stunned and not able to form any coherent sentences.
“Mind if I buy you a drink?” He stepped closer to you, ignoring the rest of his group and your best friend. He grinned in amusement, seeing how you still didn’t react to his words at all. “I’ll be right back, sweetheart.”
With that he walked past you towards the bar. You followed his every move unconsciously, never taking your eyes off his form. You watched him lean against the bar and talk with the bartender quickly.
Your friend already started to entertain herself by chatting with the other guys, ignoring you completely. Since none of them tried to speak to you, you could shamelessly observe him. Your eyes wandered down his back, acknowledging his butt. For a moment you envied him for having such a fine ass in simple pants.
Deep in your thoughts, you missed how he returned with two drinks, giving one of them to you. “You look thirsty.”
You coughed awkwardly and avoided eye contact with him, ashamed he caught you staring.
He chuckled lowly before he pointed at your drink. “I have a feeling this might be your favourite.”
For a second you glanced up at him, seeing him wink at you with a broad grin. “It is,” you admitted with a quick nod.
“So, what do you think?” He asked, coming once again closer to you until his breath fanned over your face.
“Hmm?” You looked up at him with wide eyes, not understanding what he was trying to say.
“After you finish that drink. Where should we go? Yours or mine?”
You blinked a few times, processing his question. You took several deep breaths and tried to school your expression into a neutral one, even though the corner of your lips twitched slightly in amusement and you couldn’t hide the enjoyment in your eyes.
“We are literally married, Jinyoung.”
“I knew you seemed familiar,” he exclaimed, grinning brightly so his eyes turned into crescent moons and little crinkles appeared at their corners. “Even better!” He downed his drink in one go and motioned for you to follow his example. He then grabbed your empty glasses and shoved them into the hands of one of his friends. “Ours it is then!” Jinyoung announced, grabbed you while ignoring your protests and lifted you up bridal style.
You squealed and laughed, hitting his chest lightly before you wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Good night guys! I just scored the jackpot,” he bid his goodbyes to his friends and nodded shortly to your friend, before he turned around and carried you through the room towards the exit.
You waved at your own friends and made an apologetic expression until you and Jinyoung stepped out of the bar. “That was our night out. You held it pretty short. What’s your plan, Mr. Park?”
“Ah, I got bored and I just thought to myself I prefer an evening with you at home. Let’s order something to eat and watch a movie or something.” He shrugged with his shoulders, already walking towards his car.
“Only if we cuddle!”
Jinyoung smirked and leaned down to kiss you teasingly. “It might not stay with just cuddles, my love.”
You laughed again, stretching yourself to get another kiss from him. “Fine by me.”
“What are the odds that we catch each other alone like this?”
~
“Until I drop you off, you’re mine.”
~
“So, it’s just me, you, and the moon.”
~
“You think they’d notice if we slip away?”
“Get me something sweet like me.”
~
“Don’t ever listen to a word this man says. He is fluent in bullshit.”
~
“Who am I to stand in the way of destiny?”
~
“Don’t worry. I have no soul.”
“I was kidding, but nice to see your animosity towards him is alive and well.”
~
“Good… He was a piece of shit to you.”
~
“You’re about to feel my hand to the back of your head if you don’t stop.”
~
“You know I can make it cleaner than before the dinner.”
“Some girl you hooked up with keeps asking me if you changed your number.”
~
“‘Master has given Dobby a sock.’”
~
“Has he been drinking?”
~
“Why do they still get to talk?”
