College AU where:

Lisa runs away from home and lives in the library 24/7 until twelve notices and sneaks her into his dorm he shares with nine and runs through a bunch of blatant lies like "that's my cousin's nephew's estranged aunt's au pair's girlfriend" and "idk I've never met her she passed out drunk in the hallway I'm just being a gentleman" "yes I love herbal essences shampoo what's it to you?" and "I have a lot of pillows under my quilt. Human shaped pillows. It's an anime thing don't weeb-shame me" and nine just sighs cos he's already found out all about her situation online and would probably be alright with it gdi if twelve would just ASK?

Had fun playing around with timing here to differing amounts of success, what managed to make this work was how perfect it fits Lisa's POV

Gives nose/forehead kisses- Twelve. Nine will sometimes kiss the top of their heads when he thinks they’re asleep.

Gets jealous the most- Twelve, but it’s usually of Nine and Lisa getting cozy without him.

Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive- Nine.

Takes care of on sick days- It depends on who gets sick. Lisa is not a lot of trouble, she’ll nap a lot and watch tv, both Nine and Twelve have their job cut for them. Nine is the type to deny he’s sick and tries to act normally until he’s about to collapse, Twelve already knows the signs of a sick Nine and the tricks on how to care for him, so it’s usually Twelve who takes care of sick Nine. Now, Twelve is an absolute nightmare when he gets sick, he doesn’t like taking any kind of medicine and he’ll whine and be overdramatic about the smallest of things, so Nine and Lisa have to team up to take care of him, Lisa is more patient so she’s in charge of making Twelve take his medicine while Nine cooks the food and tries not to lose his cool.

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day- It takes both Twelve and Lisa to be able to drag Nine into the water. He won’t stay there long though.

Gives unprompted massages- Twelve. Nine complains and pretends he doesn’t like them but he doesn’t pull away either.

Drives/rides shotgun- Twelve drives, Nine rides shotgun and Lisa takes the backseat because she has the habit of falling asleep on long rides.

Brings the other lunch at work- Lisa.

Has the better parental relationship- All of them, but while Twelve and Lisa would be the more fun-loving type, Nine would be the strict parental figure their kids just don’t dare cross and the one to ultimately make sure the rules are followed.

Tries to start role-playing in bed- Still...Twelve.

Embarrassingly drunk dancer- Nine and Lisa, and Twelve loves watching his adorable dorks trying to dance together and failing at it.

Still cries watching Titanic- Lisa. Nine doesn’t like watching movies more than once but when he hears Lisa crying and Twelve at a loss over what to do he’ll go and let Lisa snuggle up to him, which is a sure way to calm her down.

Firmly believes in couples costumes- Twelve, although I doubt he or Lisa would ever manage to get Nine into a matching costume in public.

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas- Nine and Twelve.

Makes the other eat breakfast- Lisa doesn’t let her boys skip breakfast even if she has to drag them to the table.

Remembers anniversaries- Twelve and Lisa. Nine always forgets.

Brings up having kids- None of them.

On mornings like this, it really hits Nine that they’re alive.

Logically he can tell he’s still breathing.  It doesn’t surprise him to see his chest rise and fall like always.  Still the future had always been an elusive ghost to him, something for other people to grapple with.  Now that he found himself face to face with tomorrow as a certain reality, he was left throwing his hands up in air in disbelief most of the time.

Not that it was annoyance.  It was never an annoyance to live for once in his life.  Just very unusual and unfamiliar.  A creature of habit like him could find a reason to protest the best of changes due to the simple fear of the unknown that came with it.

It was these strange circumstances all crashing together like a beautiful chaotic mess that made him creep into Twelve and Lisa’s room in the early morning.  He owns more than he likes to her.  She deserves more than two mistakes who play with bombs, but at this point she’s already made her choice.  There’s no going back.

So he does the least he can do and leans down and presses his lips to the top of her hand and whispers a quiet thank you.

With that he stands back up, ready to leave without another word, but an unexpected voice stops him.

“Wow, what’s this?  Actually showing emotions for once?”

It takes all his willpower to keep a neutral expression as he turns around and sees the figure he thought was Lisa shooting an all too familiar grin.

“Shut up,”  He has no other words than those.

“Oh come on you know you love me,”  Twelve laughs, boyish and bright now that she’s in their lives.

“Whatever,”  In the end, he’s too tired to lie about these things anymore.
