I don’t know if it’s fair to criticize TADC on making Jax a main character without calling it a critique of the plot itself. Goose mentioned this was always the planned route, so she’d have to make that clear with her storytelling. Thus, Jax took most of the limelight with main character status. If that was the intent of the show, Jax getting the most screen time was inevitable. To say that this plot choice is not great is one thing, but I wouldn’t say it goes against the story itself. To not like Jax or Pomni would be to simply not like the main plot points of the show.
But to separate that critique from the one stating how the others were not as fully developed as they could have been, my ultimate takeaway was TADC just needed more time. The team could absolutely have fleshed out Zooble, Gangle, and Kinger (now he would be peak) in say…4-5 extra episodes. But that’s not the story Goose wanted to tell.
While I’m not one to fault how she wanted the story to go, I didn’t like the execution of the Jax reveal. Came out of left field for me. The one good thing I have noticed is that while Jax’s transfem identity is accepted, no one is really excusing or justifying the abusive behavior because of it (you know with Ribbit, Kaufmo, and nearly Pomni). Trauma and anxiety can absolutely explain why someone does things, but their actions are ultimately in their control. So, I’m not one to fault Goose on the type of story she wanted to tell, I just had a small critique on how she chose to tell it. If that makes sense?
