Spider Cave (1 of 2) - RAINMAN PAGE
The oldest record of honey collecting dates back to 8,000 - 10,000 years ago. Cave drawing depicting a person climbing a rope ladder on the edge of a cliff and collecting honey from a dangerous bee nest. Cuevas de la Araña (Spider Cave). Valencia, Spain.
frankly, I don’t know why everyone’s scared of the massive spider cave.
These species adapted to life underground SO WELL they MUTATED the way they ate, and built a FOOTBALL FIELD’S WORTH of interwoven silk, that MULTIPLE DIFFERENT SPECIES OF SPIDER contribute to.
They don’t bite, and they eat SULFUR!
This is BEAUTIFUL!! We need to preserve spider city!!

I wanted to play Jak & Daxter earlier (like every day of my life *cough*). But I especially wanted to play a specific level: the Dark Cave. I wonder why?
Appreciate The Environment: Spider Cave from Jak and Daxter
You’d think the easy answer for what you were going to find in a place called “Spider Cave” is a metric ton of spiders, and you’d only be partially right! Part of the last burst of areas in the original Jak and Daxter, Spider Cave has way more going on than its ridiculously simple name lets on. Inside this cave is, yes, spiders, but also a giant robot, inexplicable cave trees and more. Though the areas in Jak and Daxter got a little earned flak for being generic I think Spider Cave is a good example of how to take a level concept as generic as this and spice it up a little to the point it’s always something I look forward to near the end of the game.
The caves themselves have a great, ominous feeling to them and save a few transitions they consist of wide open chambers, avoiding the pitfall of other cave levels that funnel you down narrow tubes to the point of boredom. It’s a great level for pure platforming as well, as soon as you find the Precursor Robot excavation in the deepest chambers you have a fun climb ahead of you to the the power cell waiting at the top. The main chamber features the aforementioned inexplicable cave trees, which to this day I don’t really understand the existence of other than “Naughty Dog wanted a termite enemy in the game” but hey, trees aren’t what you expect to see in a cave like this so i’m keen to never care about how or why they’re there.
It’s a shame the final area in Jak and Daxter has so few actual levels to explore. While I obviously can’t prove this I’ve always felt the last sections of the game were on the bad side of a time constraint for the developers. Only a couple more areas to go in this little sub series without a name, and when it’s over I’ll miss having my excuse for writing about this wonderful game.
Oh yeah, did I forget to mention there’s spiders in Spider Cave or....?
