I didn’t notice the webfall at first.
The strands so fine and iridescent, that I walked right into a few.
It’s a testament of how much I’ve been outside lately, since I didn’t even flinch.
Absentmindedly brushing the webs off myself, as I went to fed the stray kittens.
If you’re unfamiliar; a webfall is what I call the occurrence, where instead of Their strands being weaved between the branches, the Spiders weave Their strands down from the top of the trees.
Sometimes it’s a few, here or there.
But as I was walking back to the door, I realized that it was the most heavy I have seen it!
My mother is right inside the house, but I was so stunned, that I didn’t want to run back inside, that I called her from my phone.
My mother tsk’d and humm’ed, as such does a southern Black mother.
She told me how these spiders have all the trees to makes their webs, why chose the ones directly in the driveway, she complained.
I laughed, and with a giggle in my speech but my words serious; the body forgets, but the mind reminders.
Or mmm, is it the other way around?
The Spider’s home has been overrun with humans, but what if our driveway was their favorite eating, meeting, breeding spot?
What if they tell each generation through their woven memories, a language we cannot even begin to comprehend.
If Elephants can traced their path back generations, stepping on or walking through their paths that humans have contorted; then why can’t the Spiders weave their memories for the next generation?
My smartphone could not comprehend the shimmer and delicate shine of the strands, so I got out my thrifted, dslr camera to give it a try.
Still not good enough.
In all honestly, I thought of @storyweavingspider when I first noticed the webfall. “Damn, I wish my camera had better features, I think fae would like to see this beauty in all of its elegance!”
Honesty thanks to @storyweavingspider I think of them instead of my fear of spiders when I see these webs as I step outside. 🕸️
