@spider-self , continued .
man , what a weirdo . it's just her luck that somebody would still be hanging around the park , even at this late hour . most other kids have long since set off for home now that dusk is falling , and grown ups don't usually make this a typical haunt of theirs to begin with . maybe a couple of dog walkers pass by , but that's it .
the clown is unnerving in a way she can't quite discern . overgrown and gangly . isolated from any context that might make the garish look make sense --- there's no circus in town . IT's thinly veiled hostility is not lost on her at all ; ava oakley can recognise somebody who might want to hurt her a mile off . it's a common sentiment .
the little girl's face puckers with a sour , reproachful frown .
" maybe you should go see a doctor . get some happy pills . " she suggests pointedly . her sentiment extends beyond merely precocious --- an overexposure to harsh treatment and adult knowledge is evident in how ava conducts herself . small fingers rummage in a polystyrene container in her clutches that's choked with french fries , and she eats a few , considering the ... hobo clown ? sigh . " ... you want some of these ? food makes me feel better . sometimes . "
