This is something I see happen here pretty frequently on my property as it is an insect/arachnid safe haven. Uncertain of exact wasp or spider ID but this is a type of spider hunting wasp (or Pompilid wasp) and a VERY LARGE spider. Was almost as large as my hand with legs spread out. The wasp had to sting the spider many many times to paralyze it. Ok, here is where it get gets REALLY scary. Once paralyzed the wasp will drag the spider to a hole it has in the soil and bury it after it lays an egg IN the spider where the wasp larvae will grow and eat the spider alive!
