a brief history. 

[ here in more detail. ] once, there was only one in the psychic sea. but with the evolution of the worlds of humans came the pain of their violence and betrayal of each other, and when it was too overwhelming, They became He and She. He took Their despair and rage at the unending violence of humans; She kept Their hope and belief that humans are better than their worst parts. the problem is that light and dark cannot exist without each other, and so They remain in conflict -- He seeking power from despair, She seeking union and peace. when He moves too far into the world of humans, She unwinds her protective webs and, with it, time itself so the battle can start anew. 

appearance. she is not confined to any specific appearance; her webs are the most visible part of her and give humans the impression of her appearing as a spider. with more contact with the humans and their world, she can manifest appearances easy for humans to see and understand.

this is a circular story. / ♪ ♫ ♬ 

       once, long ago, They were one. in a time without people, in a time without forms or names, They simply were, and it was easy. it was easy because it was all it was — to be, without cost, without pain. but the worlds of humans evolved, inevitably, and with it so did They. the humans learned to feel — they learned to come together, to be not just as they were, but as they were with others, and that bears hope, trust, love.

       but it bears, too, betrayal.

       the humans hurt each other, and They (who were one) felt that burn against the hope They had. every time the humans in these worlds fell into violence, deceit, pain, it came as a knife in the heart of Their hope and sawed at the fabric that joined Them as Them. They became I and You, He and She the humans would later call Them, separated — He felt Her hope, then, and She felt His despair. the humans found many ways to fall short of the ideals They once had for them, and each time He drew further and further away from Her. it was Her hope, after all, that made this hurt. it was Her hope that made Them suffer.

       He saw the worst in humans, and allowed it to eclipse the best of what they were capable of. because how could He trust, when that was made Them hurt ? so He tore himself from Her, and They were no longer They. They would never be They again.

       when He left, He took Their despair with Him, and it no longer hurt. He knew, now, what to expect. He knew, now, what humans were, and fell through the psychic sea that had been Them for many millennia, collapsing in on His darkness. alone, She burned under all the light left, and kept with Her Their hope ( now Hers, and Hers alone ).

        light and dark cannot exist without each other. They are drawn, constantly, back to how They had been, but instead of peace there is conflict. He feeds on the humans’ despair and makes that his power. She builds barriers — she weaves web after web between Their world and the worlds beyond, the worlds of humans, reaching with light into the darkness until the light inevitably burns itself out.

       He cannot feel fear; that is a human thing, born out of the briefness of the humans’ existence. She cannot feel love; that is a human thing, made precious out of the briefness of the humans’ existence. They are things that never die and, thus, do not know what it is like to cling to something so fiercely that it makes you who you are.

       all He has is despair. all She has is hope.

       They play out Their cycle every time, and every time, They fight to the bitter end. He empowered, and She trusting. but it happens the same way: the darkness overwhelms Her and She does the only thing she can do: She unravels her web and starts stitching time back together again. over and over, resetting the worlds of humans when they are driven to their own destruction by the despair of their existence. 

        ( what He doesn’t know anymore — what He hasn’t known for millennia upon millennia — is that the truth of the humans’ violence, their worst selves, is only half of the story. and with His influence, they believe it too: that they are no better than the worst among them, and the worst in themselves. He crushes them from the places in them that are hollowed and hurt until they succumb to His will, His expectations, His belief in how humans are nothing more than their violence and their betrayal. )

       They have always known the words and ways of humans, but He has spent years reaching through the veil between Their world and the worlds beyond and He speaks with them, now, too, in the ways they understand: small and precise and despairing. while He reaches for them, She weaves the barriers he shreds, leaving holes larger and more aching than she can stitch back together. 

      so She is looking too, now — for humans who understand that there is more to this story than its most painful parts.
