I can't get back into hell, I dreamed
though I know this is isn't heaven
like living in the the teeth of upside-
down mountains, caught between
the peaks, I dream this metal isn't
soulless, it's screaming as it twists
keeping this alive, I dream the station
down below opening its lines
the rusting heart of engine unwinding
in its shell, egg white the snow and
jets of steam, I dreamed myself a
passenger leaving traces of the sound
clippings of the ship leaving orbit
the bending of the moment in the
hands of its inheritor, I dream of gentle
hands holding the killer or the savior
unable to touch their face or sway
their fingers as wind against chimes
but I've dreamt the songs, and gave
the ghost an offering its wet nose
I dreamed there is a way to heaven
but only a way, hope glows beyond
the chokehold, the molten fire drips
down the chute; dew of creation
into the mold; new life is forged here
and the billows breathe wind into the body of a machine
