Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #13: I cannot handle how cute Devil Dinosaur is, seriously. The art on this series is fantastic. And I’m so glad that people are finally starting to take Lunella seriously in this arc! Of course, that comes with its own set of problems, but at least she and Devil Dinosaur are meeting some superheroes. (In this issue, a T-Rex high-fives a Hulk. This is definitely one of the best things to happen in 2017.) Also, why does the Thing wear a trench coat? I’ve seen it before, and somehow it seems creepier than if he just wore his superhero trunks...
Rocket Raccoon and Groot: #1-2: I wish this series had lasted longer, but after reading the first two issues, I guess I can see why it didn’t get more love: these first couple chapters are pretty dark, and while that makes sense in the context of who Rocket is, I think the one volume of Groot’s previous series (which is beautiful and incredible and so dang sweet) maybe led people to think that this series would be lighter in tone. So far, it’s not, but it’s certainly interesting, and the art is great.
Saga #38-42: Dang, I love this series. It breaks my heart, and the art is amazing, and as always, I can’t wait to read the next arc.
Spill Zone (FCBD): I’ve been looking forward to reading the Spill Zone graphic novel (I think it’s been checked out of my library ever since we got it), and I was happy to get a prequel chapter here. The art is great, and the story is delightfully creepy.
Starfire #12: This was a fun, if slightly rushed conclusion to an entertaining series. I’m still confused about Kori’s age though--if she’s a Teen Titan, then fine, maybe she’s 18 or 19, but in this series, she dates Sol, whose age we never learn. His sister Stella (and Kori’s best friend in this series) is a cop, so Kori is definitely an adult or Stella would have shut that business down, but...it’s still weird. ‘Fun but weird’ is how I’d describe this whole series.
The Mighty Thor #1-2: I’m really glad to finally be reading this series, and I’m glad that I’ve got a lot of Thor to catch up on before the new movie in November. I’m really pulling for Jane, but wow, having cancer and being a superhero are both full time jobs, and she’s also part of the Congress of Worlds. I don’t worry about her being bested in battle (she’s called Mighty for a reason), but I do wonder how she can possibly get anything done while being exhausted all the time. And I’m excited for the next arc, when we see Jane Foster and Thor working together somehow...
