On the recording of "Cast No Shadow" at Rockfield, upon Noel's return to the band following the cricket-bat incident:

Noel had started to write this last song on the train back to Rockfield. The train had drawn to a halt under a bridge, so Noel got out his guitar and started writing a song about the nature of songwriting. As ever, the music came quickly, but he was still working on the words when he and Liam went in to record it. 'It was the only time I've seen Noel and Liam stood together in the studio,' Owen [Morris] recalls. 'Noel was still writing the words as Liam was singing it and they were both stood there really close to each other. Liam would sing and then Noel would say "Hang on", and then change the words and say, "Okay, sing this". It was beautiful and Liam's vocal on that song is amazing. Liam is fantastic vocally, he's got a real soul to him.' As ever, music had healed and brought the brothers together.

I can’t watch Cast No Shadow from MTV 96 unplugged without summoning inner reserves of strength. The moment when Noel spots Liam in the audience and you can see him visibly brace himself emotionally, and then some woman shouts out supportively (a real one) and he’s like “shut up” and she goes “sorry 😅”.

And then Noel starts pouring out his heart singing and you can see that little brave boy who got knocked around by his dad and refused to let it dim his spirit.
