Psychedelic spirit creatures, North Korean spies and a whole lot of double-dealing. Welcome to ‘The Spill’.
‘Spill Zone: The Broken Vow’, is the second instalment of the SpillZone series, a graphic novel collaboration between author Scott Westerfeld and illustrator Alex Puvilland.
‘The Broken Vow’ continues the story of Addison and her sister Lexa, whose lives have been dramatically impacted by the mysterious ‘Spill that turned their hometown into a psychedelic nightmare inhabited by mutant creatures and “meat-sack” zombies.
In this book, Addison and Lexa face new threats from within the Spill and from the world at large. But this time they have a new ally, one who can help Addison understand the changes she is experiencing. But will that be enough to protect them?
I thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Broken Vow’, both the story itself and the art style of the comic itself. Though Alex Puvilland gets the credit on the cover as the illustrator, Hilary Sycamore is responsible for the coloring, and it is arguably this as much as Puviland’s drawing that makes the SpillZone comics as distinctive as they are. My experience was particularly luxurious as I purchased the hardback version to match my original copy of SpillZone.
‘The Broken Vow’ is a fairly quick read, which made it ideal for getting me off to a good start on my 2019 reading goals. If you’re into weird sci-fi/fantasy hybrids, or have enjoyed Scott Westerfeld’s other work, then you should definitely check out the SpillZone series.
Bought a new book today. Gonna do some reading and see if that tires me out. 👍🏼#SpillZone https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo8UibvgscEdTaIXkjOfu_Cgl1asI07ACmsTvM0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1197zxzho8fgq
TBR for POB Readathon
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare (I’m halfway through it, so if I stay on schedule with my school assignments next week I’ll be able to finish it).
The Lady’s Guide to Piracy and Petticoats by Mackenzi Lee (just checked this out at my library and so I’m super excited)
Wildcard by Marie Lu (I feel like I can fly through this)
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco (this has been on my TBR forever)
Spill Zone by Scott Westerfeld (I really want to start reading more graphic novels so here goes nothing)
I know that this is a big TBR for a readation, but all of my library holds came in at once, so I’m scrambling to read everything. Wish me luck!!
Two posts today! I'm participating in the #biannualbibliothon today's challenge is a unique book. I went with Spillzone. I loved this graphic novel. What makes this book so different is that the main character is a photographer. She goes into the Spillzone a terrifying area filled with dangerous creatures and physic defying crazy-ness. I enjoyed how her goal was to photograph the area instead of kill the creatures. Tag! @totallybookedandread_y and @sassy_books101 tagged me to do the #booksandheros tag Wonder Woman (a book with a strong female character) - Percy Jackson Superman (book with a hero from another planet) - Cinder (does the moon count) Batman (book with a plot twist) - wicked like a wildfire Aqua man (a book set in the sea)- voyage of the dawn treader The flash (a quick read) - Zodiac Starforce Cyborg (a character who overcame death) - Harry Potter I'm hoping I'll be able to join for the other prompts. I just normally prefer to plan my photos. #winterbibib #winterbiannualbibliothon #uniquebook #spillzone #graphicnovel #scottwesterfeld #alexpuvilland
Very spooky graphic novel filled with mystery. Definitely would recommend for a Halloween read. Hi guys. I totally binged this in less than an hour. It was a great read for October. So many mysteries. Though it ended and I still have so many questions! The series is going to start up again this month and then round 2 of the graphic novel will be sold in July. Which is way to long for all of my questions to go unanswered. QOTD: have you read this graphic novel? Do you have as many questions as I do? What do you do while you wait for more books in a series to be released? #bookstagramfeature #bookporn #bookstagram #graphicnovel #spillzone #octoberreads #owlmug #fallleaves #tealover #teacup #tea #somanyquestions #ineedthesequel
